Nebula Toy with My Emotions; New Album out July 7

"Dude, this tree RULES. Let's live here!"Renowned California stoner rock icons Nebula have announced that — much like The Atomic Bitchwax — they’re re-partnering with Tee Pee Records to release their new album. I got the following press release from the label and was ultra-psyched on it:

We are pleased to announce that Nebula have returned to Tee Pee Records and will release their brand new LP Heavy Psych on July 7th as well as reissue Let it Burn (originally released on Tee Pee in 1998) on vinyl later this year.

Psyched, that is, until I read the album title. Heavy Psych was released by the band via Salt of the Earth Music in 2008. And it was pretty good. So, just like with 4 by The Bitchwax, I’m going to have to go out and buy a record I already own. Just great. Those are the purchases I love justifying to my wife most of all.

Then I did some more investigation into the email:

It's psych that's heavy. Now that's what I call an appropriate title.Heavy Psych Tracklisting:
1. Pulse
2. The Dagger
3. Aphrodite
4. Dream Submarine
5. In the Depth’s
6. The Other Side
7. Crown of Thorns
8. Lead Sky
9. Little Yellow Pill

Turns out only the first six of those tracks were on the Salt of the Earth version of the record. So we get three new Nebula tunes (or, if you’d prefer, “Newbula tunes”) plus a couple that are already established as being quality stuff. Not the ideal situation — that would be an entirely new full-length — but hey, there’s a depression on, beggars can’t be choosers. Studio time ain’t cheap.

Still, the emotional up, down and halfway-up-again have me all worn out. Instead of passing judgment one way or the other, I’ll just note how much ass the Tee Pee roster is kicking lately and hope that they manage to rescue Fu Manchu sometime soon.

And by the way, yes, this does mean that both Nebula and Clutch have new albums out on the same day. Rock.
