What’s the Deal with Pasi?

Pasi Koskinen: He's so dark... and lazy.Okay, I know Amorphis aren’t stoner rock, but they rule and since this concerns Mannhai, which vocalist Pasi Koskinen left Amorphis to pursue full-time after the kind of crappy Far from the Sun album in 2003, it’s at least somewhat relevant.

Ah shut up. My issue is this:

Mannhai issued this update today:

“Maybe it’s time to tell you what is going on in the Mannhai-camp… We’ve been quite passive for a long time, and right now it seems that we will remain that way for some time. How long this will be is impossible to say, but the fact that we haven’t composed new music together as a band since 2007, might give a picture of the current situation.

We’ve done four albums in nine years, which would be enough for an average band-career. Also, we’ve played gigs in various kinds of circumstances-and always enjoyed it. But now it’s time to jump off the wagon for a while and take a look at what we’ve done from another perspective. Whenever it’s time to activate again, we’ll let people know about it. Thanks for support and all the best!!”

So the dude leaves one of the most high and mighty Finnish bands ever and shacks up with Mannhai, who were mediocre at best to start with (he’s also in the death metal band Ajattara), but then just lets that sit for two years? What’s the deal? “Would be enough for an average band-career?” Way to show off that artistic drive, guys.

Hey man, if you don’t want to sing anymore, that’s fine, but if you’re going to quit, quit. Don’t keep jerking off your fans with half-hearted performances and uninspired work if it’s not what you want to be doing. Doesn’t seem too much to ask.

Here’s Pasi with Amorphis in better times:

You can almost smell the happiness

They look thrilled to be there. And because The Obelisk is nothing if not fair and balanced, here’s Mannhai:

The rarely-seen guitar and crossbonesAnd here’s the Blabbermouth story.
