Haven't posted here in awhile, but i'd seen the Melvins live a couple of nights ago. For a band to be this great in what's essentially their third decade of existence is unparalleled. It was without Big Business ("Melvins Lite"), but the guy they have on bass (don't know his name but he's really good) played a standup double bass the entire night, and they'd ventured into some almost progressive jazz type stuff that veered back and forth between bowed drone noise and more jam oriented stuff. They'd played few of the expected favorites (not many old ones at all, actually), but to create something unique and innovative and have the crowd still into it despite it being alot of new ground really says something. It seemed to almost be a medley of a bunch of stuff, almost like a chorus or verse here and there of certain songs ("Set Me Straight" only lasted maybe 40 seconds). Buzzo was wearing his ridiculously awesome wizard robe thing.

Not sure how long that they'll have this lineup, but it's well worth seeing before they revert back to the Big Business backed lineup or whoever else they may have. They're still doing the three part harmonies, and I think that's what sets them apart from most of their imitators and clones--Buzzo's almost a crooner at times.

No real point to this thread/ post other that i'm blown away at how many times I can be blown away by this band.

I applaud their longevity & consistency.

Buzzo & Crover: just add water (a bassist), makes its own savory sauce!

Saw them back in April - amazing, one of the best shows I'd ever seen. They were a 4 piece that night. Just heavy - only way to describe them.

one of the best bands I've seen live...last time I saw them they played for two hours and the drummers never stopped pummeling the shit out of those drums...they just kept connecting one song with the other...it was sick...

Looking forward to seeing their Freak Puke lineup in a few weeks...I totally concur with the assessments of their tour run as a 4-piece earlier this year...one of the best and loudest Melvins shows I have seen in two decades of going to their shows.

On a Melvins-related topic, does anyone know what Big Business is up to in the coming months?...I've heard rumors that they are working on a new album, in addition to murmurs about a fall tour in support of Mastodon.

They are also still awesome on record.

Best band of ever, IMO.

Big Business is supposed to be here (Portland) in September for MFNW and they've been talking about a new album or release for a while... if that helps.

You're certainly more humorous than he is.
