Witchcult Today is also my favorite, black masses my second, followed by come my fanatics

When Black Masses came out I fucking hated it. Could not "see" the songs through the lo-fi production. I have to admit that it grew on me to the point where I like it better than Witchcult Today. Come My Fanatics is my favorite though and I agree that Dopethrone maybe a bit overrated. (ducks from possible shitstorm)

I like the S/T the most. I think it's highly underrated. I absolutely hate Dopethrone, and I don't think Come My Fanatics is much better. Let Us Prey is crap and Black Masses is disgusting. We Live is tolerable, and Witchcult Today is good..especially the production...it does get a bit repetitive but the songs and riffs are cathcy. But hey, I like Dave Matthews Band so what the fuck do I know. :D

This ^^ i like the last few albums but they don't compare to the first few.

I love EW but I don't reckon they've nailed a consistently great album. There are incredible moments on all of their albums (Venus in Furs on Black Masses is one of my fave EW songs) but I do find it hard to name every song on any of their albums.

Lots of False Doom going on in this thread.

The last 2 (3?) are an embarrassment.

First album is great. Best sound, best tunes.

Dopethrone is great, great songs, unique sound.

The rest is meh. 'cept witchcult, that's a step above meh at "hrm..."

Oh wow, I don't know about that. I've given that last Ramesses LP plenty of spins and I've come away with a bad taste every single time. For one, EW's guitar tone is far superior. Ramesses riffs are borderline pedestrian and I'm the first one to admit that Jus's vocals aren't the best, but Ramesses just don't cut it. Especially when they do that overdub with the hokey "monster" vocals.

On top of all of that, Ramesses should try doing their own thing. Former members of EW playing heavy riff filled music with the same scheme and using soundbytes from satanic films in their songs?
They are jocking what Electric Wizard is and everyone can see it. Jus must be laughing.

Nah I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there, Rammesses have taken that template where Jus obviously wouldn't let it go - more metal, more nasty... I like Take The Curse, it's not ground-breaking or the Best Doom Ever but it's a damn sight more satisfying than Jus's recent output.
The fact that nu-Wizard has turned into a schoolgirl retro doom-lite band makes it quite clear where the heft came from on the earlier records.

And thanks to this thread I had a horrible dream last night where I had to sit through the new Electric Wizard play a neo-folk set in an all-seated venue. No-one could hear my screams of rage.

Bet the light show was good though.

Don't get the Ramesses love as much as some but I do know that I haven't listened to any Electric Wizard bar Dopethrone for about 5 years.

If I want great stoner doom I listen to other albums (Warhorse, Sloth etc), if I want current doom on record or live I'm happy with Wounded Kings (\m/) or Serpent Venom.

Keep in mind I actually liked Black Masses, but I'm not quite sure what they (he) is trying to accomplish with that one? Granted it took me a while to "get" Black Masses, but it might take me 100 years to eventually understand where this one is coming from......very disappointed.

They've done a load of acid and listened to their old Hawkwind records by the sound of it, but then maybe that only appeals to burnt out casualties like me heheheh

On the other hand maybe they have 'gone too far' and he's just shouting 'fuck you'.
