There's a lot of 'heads around here. Any of you try this shit?

I keep reading all these articles on the major news websites and none of them really seem to able to articulate the difference between these things or even accurately explain what the active chemicals are for these products.

I'm old and frail and stimulants bum me out, so I ain't going near any of this shit.

So, what's the deal?

Different beasts entirely...

Spice, K2, and all that jazz are mixes based on 'synthetic cannabinoids' that weren't previously controlled but have fairly similar effects to smoking the killer weed and so became very popular. Had a little dabble with some spice a few times, wasn't that impressed but if you weren't able to acquire the proper for some reason and were doing something that required a high (going to see Sleep for example) then could be worth a blast. Think these things are now illegal in many places.

'Bath salts' has become a catch all term for lots of different 'research' stimulants. It's just what they're sold as to supposedly fly under the radar. I've tried a couple of things that have at some time been marketed as bath salts: mephedrone and methylone. Both now illegal here as far as I know. Meph is just really rushy, some people dig it but didn't do a lot for me except give me that 'too much coffee' feeling and make me talk a lot. People got into bad places boshing loads of it for long periods of time and it seemed to bring on the amphetamine psychoses etc. VERY quickly. Methylone was much nicer, kinda lovey like mdma but just not quite the same.
As for all the many other things you may get as 'salts' I couldn't comment personally but the impression I get from Heads who love novelty is that most of them aren't worth the hassle and generally have strong negative effects, whether physiological (discomfort, palpitations, body temp spikes) or psychological (paranoia, dependence, black outs...).

Anyway if you don't like stimulants then don't touch anything sold as 'bath salts' since as far as I know that's all you're gonna get!

I'm just curious, 'cause whenever hysteria like this happens there's so much "WHAT ABOUT TEH FUCKING CHILDREN?!!" hogwash that you never hear what the actual experience is like. People don't stop to learn what it is that they're dealing with, it's just -- "FFFUCCCKING BAN IT NOW!"

Like with the Four Loko caffeinated malt liquor bullshit from last year.

It's marketed as incense here. Barely Legal is the most effective.

Nah, I'm good. Haven't tried any of that shit; no interest in doing so.

Mainstream media's coverage of drugs = LOL. The LSD scares in the Sixties, the hysteria over marijuana in the Thirties, all comedic all the time.

I like those drinks with a bit of wormwood oil and caffeine in them. If you make your own absinthe, filter out all the sediment. That shit eats your gums big time. My molars are paining me right now from a sip of the home brew a week ago.
