Umm....yuck.

Its like everything I grew to hate about Audioslave but with Soundgarden as the band instead of Tom Morello and company.

It's as if Soundgarden has become a bunch of 50 year old sober pussies! Oh, wait.

But actually, them breaking up protected their legacy against garbage like this. That's out the window now. I really thought Thayil at least would be the gatekeeper against this sort of thing coming out in their name, but I guess he was out-voted. His solo in there did sort of rock the hut though.

What a fucking travesty. This sounds like a toothpaste commercial, not a theme to a fucking SUPERHERO movie.

I take some of that back... That song is an insult to toothpaste commercials. Here's proof.

I didn't make it to the solo. God, that shit is as bland as Cornells solo-stuff. I always respected them for breaking up at the right time and now this...embarrassing.

I think that riff is fairly badass but yeah that is some awful shit. I wrote of Chris Cornell years ago and this ain't changing my mind

I'd have hoped any reunion for these guys would have been about the music. This crap sounds like it was for the money and I don't think Thayil is excused.

Now I really wish I could have seen them at Red Rocks last year when their were performing stuff from their back catalog. I'd have to assume any future concerts will be in promo for this new material and I have no desire to waste money to see "Live To Rise" live.

I've been a massive Soundgarden fan for well over 20 years. Fuck all wrong with that tune. Roll on the album.

If there's any optimism left to be had for the new album, Cornell said that this track sounds nothing like the stuff they're writing for the album. Believe it or not?

I played the shit out of "Black Rain" when they released that, but that was an old song they re-recorded, right? If they can still write tunes like that I'll be psyched. I'm going to maintain a level of irrational optimism and still hold out hope for the new album.

Exactly, don't freak out yet folks. I'm sure the rest of the album will be killer. Cornell himself said this new album is "for the die hard fans".

Oh please, that is exactly the kind of statement that makes me cringe. Sounds like some PR-guy wrote that for him because Cornell doesn't know what to say.

I've liked all of Soundgarden's previous albums and they kicked ass when I saw them last summer. I have no reason but to feel optimistic about the new record and take Cornell's word as truth.

Was excited when that 30 second riff snippet was released.

Now I'm wishing that was the entire song. Still hoping the record's gonna be a good one, but even as a diehard Soundgarden fan, I'm setting my sights low after this bomb.

I thought it was very much a "superhero movie" song. Not a good one, though.

The song was written for the film, very recently, and pretty fast. It's not from their new album. I didn't like the song at first, it's grown on me a bit though. I'm not writing them off at all until I've heard the whole new record. And yes 'Black Rain' is a killer tune.

Yeah that song is pretty bland. I wanna hear the new album though. I lost interest in Soundgarden after BMF. Perhaps this new record will refresh my interest in them again but i'm not getting my hopes up.

Its not just that the song sucks because of poor construction, rush job, etc. its that it sucks largely because of the direction they went with the song stylistically.

Hopefully, the actual album is different but that Soundgarden actually wrote such a crappy song like this in the first place does have me concerned. The album being for "die hard fans," I agree with Jmucke that that sounds like PR speak to me as well.

Not too psyched on this song personally but I'm totally looking forward to the album. If the album sucks, then so be it, but this one song was written specifically for a huge commercial summer blockbuster movie, so of course it's not gonna be their best or heaviest song. I look at it as their "Tattoo", the first new song/single which is tailor made for radio but not nearly their best work. (Regarding "Tattoo", if you don't think the rest of the new Van Halen album kicks total and complete ass, then I don't know what to tell ya.) But yeah, if the new Soundgarden album doesn't have a few songs in the vein of "Mailman" or "4th of July" then that'll suck. I'm holding out hope though, this is just one song. And they did totally kick ass on their last tour, one of the best shows I've ever seen them do.

After reforming, I think that they chose to put their first foot forward with 'Black Rain' says something. It's an old song but wasn't released 'as is', a lot was rerecorded and reworked. It's a bad ass tune. Unless I'm mistaken the whole new album was written and virtually complete before the makers of The Avengers approached them with the offer. Everything taken together, I'm hopeful of the new record.

Well you guys have succeeded in planting a seed of hope for the album, but I'm not holding my breath.
