^ B/t the Youkilis dealio and Pedroia's subsequent Youkilis defense and his recent death glare at Bobby V. on the bench, I'd say you're spot on...oil and water situation...factor in the horrific pitching and Bobby V. is in a world of hurt...I can't believe how poorly Mark (Bound for AAA) Melancon has pitched...I think I could throw better than that guy, who was a solid pitcher for Houston.

Hats off to Humber...awesome performance...can't believe Ryan stood there and bitched at the ump on the final out even as the ball got past A.J. - all the way to the backstop...Ryan could've made it to first and killed the perfect game and given the next hitter a chance to end the no-hit bid.

Congrats to Humber....starting to become the pitcher the Mets envisioned when they drafted him and Minny hoped when they traded for him.

He sure looked like he held up on that one, but what the hell. Another year, another perfect game.

I turned off the Red Sox/Yankees in disgust after they blew a 9-0 lead. I am indeed a true fan.

Sox season is quickly turning to complete shit. Bobby Valentine will not last the whole season, no way.

I don't what's worse, the M's getting a perfect game pitched against them or the BoSox losing a 9-0 lead.

My broadcasting nightmare has returned; the Royals hired Steve Physioc and Rex Hudler as their TV crew. Complete garbage.

Boston are apparently trading for Marlon Byrd. That's probably not gonna help much.

The sad thing is that Boston's FO is more likely to fire Bobby than look at the problems beyond the outfield wall. They're not even doing that great of a job of trying to fix the problem just in front of it. Valentine's not responsible for this, after all.

Image

Boston's suffering the same problems this year they did at the close of last year: injuries and shitty morale. Except it's all been magnified due to what happened in September and the offseason drama, which all happened before Bobby came aboard, and is compounded even further by their awful start and the laughably pathetic performance from their pitching staff. Not apologizing for Bobby at all, but it's ridiculous to scapegoat him for deeper systemic problems in the organization. Even more so him than Francona. Not that anyone really needed further convincing, but it's even more evident now just how bullshit a move it was to try and shoulder the blame on Terry for what happened last year.

It's all been highly entertaining here in NY, though.

Speaking of, Pineda's out for a lot longer than 15 days now due to the shoulder. I've seen June as a minimum for his return, but no one will really know until the results from MRI this Monday come in. That Pettitte deal is looking even better now.

The latest Pineda news caught my eye...wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees decide to shut him down for the year if they the think they've got enough strength in the rotation to do so...would hate to see a young pitcher w/ Pineda's ceiling get rushed and re-injured in the process...w/ Nova pitching well and Pettitte in the offing, things are looking up even w/ Garcia and Hughes stumbling out of the gate.

Ive heard from several resources now that Pineda is more than an injury (think Joba last year)..he came in out of shape and didnt touch a ball all off season is the word. The 'injury' is just trying to get him in shape. As soon as I got some sort of confirmation dropped him in one of my fantasy leagues (drafted him late)

It was a race between him and Pettite from what Ive read for bullpen room, and his time is about out. See you next year. Trade fail.

The Red Sox..what can be really said? Its a failure from almost every angle. Pitching..bullpen..hitting..morale..bad press..The manager being the lesser of the problems, but has taken some blame as Ive seen some pisspoor moves from Bobby V out of the gate. Cant blame the coach for guys not hitting, pitching, getting along..seems to be a rotten stink in that locker room carrying over from last year and Francona has to be held responsible to a certain level, as does Epstein. They are both gone, ownership sucks so the problem resurfaces in the face of Beckett and Youkilus. When you get the tenure guys guys calling out for 'snitches' in the organization, it sends the chemistry circling the drain. Check it..it's a fucking mess. Bobby V didnt know what he was stepping into, and I honestly feel for the guy.

Sox are looking at an 85 win season

Ha, I picked the BoSox to finish with 84 wins. Their original O/U was 90. I was very tempted on that under, but I typically only like making one bet per division and I thought the Toronto over (81 wins) was even more rock solid at the time.

I agree that Bobby V isn't to blame for that greasefire, but adding him to the mix is more akin to gasoline than water.

Not quite season-related discussion, but Amazon's having a rather hefty baseball Kindle books sale right now. The Last Boy, The Soul of Baseball, The Boys of Summer, and others are on sale for $2 each. All three of those have come highly recommended during discussions I've had with people regarding baseball books.

Michael Pineida done for the season with a torn labrum. Tough blow, I was kinda looking forward to see how he fared in NYC.

Aubrey Huff on the dl with an anxiety disorder...that's no good.

Damn, sorry to hear that about Aubry Huff. Sounds like potentially serious depression. There was a mets pitcher about 10 years ago who went thru depression, may have ended his career. Can't remember his name. I remember they had him listed as depressed from quitting dipping for a short period.

Don't remember that...RE: the Mets pitcher.

On a more positive note, Greinke dealt with his own anxiety issues back in KC and was able to rebound from that. Hopefully, Huff can to and in quicker fashion than Greinke who lost might have lost a season from it.

At least Huff is nearly at the end of his career. With him, I wouldn't be surprised if substances were involved, just because he seemed like kind of a wildman to me.

It would have been devastating for Greinke if he hadn't turned it around. I bet that guy has gotten through his arbitration years and signed a huge contract now (in fact, I'm sure of it, as I saw him pitch live in person in 2004). That guy Khalil Greene a few years ago, the Padre SS probably was still in arbitration when anxiety knocked him out for good. It has to be an incredible amount of pressure to perform at that level, day-in-and-out.

Another masterful performance by Cole Hamels yesterday. At one point he retired 18 batters in a row.

Quote:
Andy Martino of the New York Daily News heard from a Mets source Thursday morning that talk of Mike Pelfey (elbow) being in no pain is part of a "company line"
In other words, Pelfrey is actually in a good deal of pain. He's discussing his options with a variety of doctors but seems likely to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery to repair his partially torn UCL. The Mets are expected to call up Chris Schwinden on Friday to take the vacant spot in their starting rotation.

Once again the Mets prove to be the most ridiculously inept team at dealing with injuries. It pains be to say this but were I ever involved with baseball I would not want to work for the Mets/Wilpons.

M's sweep the fucking Tigers in D-Town! I'm already about 50% convinced this will be the highlight of the season for us.

But how about the dick the Angels have been sucking so far? Pretty crazy. I haven't watched a game of theirs yet (no M's series yet, we've played Oakland like 20 times already), but from the highlights, they look completely lost. Never would have thought the M's would end up above the Angels in the 2012 standings, much less at the end of April/start of May. I could see it happening with Boston, but Anaheim, no way.

Pujols is going to have to snap out of his funk at at some point and I'd think that should fix the Angels.

If not, uh oh.

As a Cards fan, I can't help but enjoy watching Pujols struggle...that said, he'll snap out of it...last year, he went through a career-long HR drought but finished strong...the only question is how strongly will he break out of it...the decline has been in the works for the past few years.

Mi9ke Scoscia got called out big time here since Torii Hunter said that the team has no spirit, have to think he's got a few more weeks before he finds out he's not irreplacable. Trumbo played 5 different positions in 5 straight games and still can't get into an anemic lineup all the time, despite proven power and a .340 avg this season. Abreu is a cancer on the team, Vernon Wells off in his own world. It's the GM who created a good stat/bad chemistry situation, but Scoscia may take the hit. Pujols is flailing harder than a gaffed marlin, His failure would me catastrophic for the Halos, high comedy for the Cards.

Can't believe anyone would be desperate enough to hire Physioc/Hudler. Hudler is borderline retarded, Physioc as exciting as the lovechild of Jim Nantz and that one female ESPN NBA announcer.
