Been streaming their new album all week: http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-torch ... own-new-lp

This album is to me what a wave-runner is to Tosh. Serious Upper for some fuzzy stoner stuff, can't help but smile and head bang.

I like em, too, but it's not cool to admit it (though I just did).

I'll admit that I'm a fan and i'm not ashamed of it either. Just wish my damn preorder will arrive already so I can listen to the new album.

Need to give the new one a spin...haven't cared much for their tunes since Montoya left...speaking of Montoya, his side project ain't bad.

I like it...it's fun and easy to listen to...I give bands like Torche and ASG a spin every now and then, usually as background music...

The new one is ridiculously good. I think theyve perfected the sludge-pop thing.

The term "sludge-pop" should not exist for labeling music. Furthermore, bands should not be making music that conjures up terms like sludge-pop.

When did the Torche backlash begin, anyone got an exact time they ceased being cool ?

Good for you! Torche's really good. Love their Meanderthal-album. Looking forward to hearing the new stuff.

I feel like Torche is one of the best Stoner Rock bands in existence right now. They have their own sound and are very enjoyable. They have the right sense of melody in both the vocals and instruments and therefore are able to write the catchy songs and have their own sound. They have no stupid screamy vocals and they are awesome live too!

I noticed it around the time that Meanderthal came out when people were freaking out about their lack of genre and sonic "friendliness". Definitely had some haters by late 2008 when Montoya left.

whether you like the label or not, "Sludge Pop" is exactly what Torche does. The use heavy music to write pop melodies. When they do it right, it's very cool. Nothing wrong with a hook, even if it feels radio friendly at times.

I dig em. Have all of their releases. Yeah, there was a backlash in the works around Meanderthal. I am listening to the new one right now, first spin...still digesting it.

I would be cool with an album full of songs like:

The Last Word
Amnesian
Bring Me Home
Face The Wall

Oh shit!! "Reverse Inverted" just came on. Fuck yes! Loving it.

The new album has a little more of that stuff to my ears. I'd be all over an album with the more atmospheric stuff. Hell, I think Bring Me Home is my favorite thing they've done.

I think i listened to Harmonicraft 6 times yesterday. It's just a great listen, some nifty little touches here and there... like the octaved "shred" solo in walk it off? hehehehe.

I foresee this album getting Torche a slot on a "big" tour, then the backlash will really begin. whatever, this is 40 minutes of fun. Gonna be a top album of the year for me for sure.

I'm loving the album. And the title track, hoooo doggie, the title track.

Kicking is definitely a highlight for me; it has this driving High on Fire-esque riff. In Pieces has a nice driving riff in it too, I've been on a mid-tempo plodder binge for a little while now.

Snakes are Charmed is the one that just gets me bobbin' n smiling, that initial lead tone is awesome with the underlying fuzzy roar of a bass (is that a 'ric?).

Title traffic is fuckin' killer. So is the outro; doooooom.

Overall lovin' the tones on this album, along with diversity of song and riff.

This album shows that it the problem wasn't so much the departure of Juan as it was the departure of a 2nd guitarist. With a second stringer back in the mix Torche is back at full force.

Solid album.

I saw Ricky's sweet punk band Post-Teens the other night playing with Young Widows. Both bands were kick ass.

Young Widows are a very good band. Agreed.
