hey, they sounded ACE on the Time Machine tour 2 years ago. I'll pay another $65 to see em again.

It would be worth it just for Bacchus Plateau.

I thought his voice was shot on that tour, music was good, but the voice just didn't bring it together.

I caught 'em early on the tour and thought they sounded great.
Two 90 minute sets with "Moving Pictures" in it's entirety was awesome!
So yeah I'll be catching this tour too.

Vocals are not the same... but musically, they have never sounded better. It's worth it just to hear them as musicians. Almost seems like they got a second wind, maybe it was Pearts return after his wife and daughters passing. But live, they sound like a much younger group. Except Getty can't hit that high pitch anymore, so his singing is more of a parallel instrument at this point. I sort of filter it out, and basically focus on them like an instrumental group. The lack of range doesn't take away from the performance is my point.

I saw this last week. After missing the last couple of tours (after seeing every one for the prior 15 years or so), I'll probably make an effort to make it to one of these. They're bound to have a second leg in 2013 though and I bet Portland/Vancouver will be a stop then.

The new song sounds pretty good, it's a bit of a throwback. To give the fans their money's worth though, they should just hire another singer for the older stuff live. Someone like Dalbello, who was on the Lifeson solo album.

Singing is pretty bad at this point. Bad enough it's a distraction -- not good.

Don't know about that - I watched the Time Machine DVD and I thought they were amazing. And they also sound great on Rock in Rio and R30. Geddy's voice has changed but it didn't sound bad, its just different than it was 30 years ago. I've always found people didn't like his voice, so hearing those comments is nothing new - I think I heard complaints about his voice around 1978 when I first got into Rush.

I do plan on going, the past 4 times they've played in town it was outdoors in the middle of summer in Texas. I went in like 2003 I think and the venue was horrible, sound was horrible and it was hot as hell. Not a fun show, I hate outdoor shows in July and August no matter who is playing. But November, indoors - yeah I have to go. Will be my 11th time to see them.

Already got tix for the tour kick off show (Manchvegas 603) and the L.A. show.

I thought they sounded great on the Time Machine tour and I totally dig the new material (including the two tracks from 2 years ago). As to Geddy’s voice, it is what it is. He’s still a much better singer than me, and I subject people to my mealy-mouthed half-octave-range on a semi-regular basis, so I can’t really complain about someone who was once awesome being merely kind of awesome. Other than Dio I don’t think ANY upper-register-style singer has been able to keep it up past middle age; even Halford and Dickinson puss out on the high notes. Brad Delp would’ve still been able to do it had he not taken the Weber Grill to Heaven. But those guys were total exceptions and God killed ‘em for it.

Yeah, I guess I'll take back what I said about Geddice's vocals because I really enjoyed the 'Time Machine' thing. I guess the tune that stood out for me where the Ged was struggling was 'The Camera Eye' but, with that said, I totally enjoyed the performance. I love Rush. After Sabbath, they're my favorite band. I'm totally looking forward to the new album and if the tour dates fall around the time where it's tolerable for me to see them (I live in Dallas, too), then I'll go. I basically have the same sentiment as doomedfuzz: any concert outdoors in the heat of the Texas summer = not gonna do it.

Just got my ticket for Philly. I don't give a shit if Geddy's lost a little range on his vocals. They still rip it up as musicians, and that's what I want to see. I haven't seen them in 15 years and I want to see them at least once more before they retire or Geddy's voice gets really shot. Though by the looks of it, they'll probably be rocking for quite a few more years.

The new single - up until the singing, which veers closer to AOR (no surprise there) - has a young, hungry riff. Get a singer with less range, add guts 'n' tick riddled beards to all of them, shave off about 20 years, and our man JJ Taskmaster would be writing his usual ten paragraphs of high praise on this new kickass song from a new kickass band.
