People moved on already, eh? Probably due to the fact that you all pumped it 5 times on the first day. I've never been able to do that. I got it a couple days after it dropped and I've only played it three times. Just too much other stuff...Pallbearer, Alcest, 16. Man cannot live on HOF alone.

I found that for me, the album sounds better when you start it off with "Madness...". That track is likely the best on the album, and would have been a perfect opener. Not to necessarily dump the first three tracks, but I can actually just listen to 4-10 and it's pretty much perfect. The title track is actually probably the weakest on the album, so I might cut that and "Serums", Then you'd have 100% killer beast. I'm definitely still in Pikes' corner...HOF is the Motorhead of our time. Well, Motorhead is still around, but you know what I mean.

You've got a point. I find myself starting with "Madness..." just because it's such an awesome track and then I end up listening to the rest of it from there and it works just fine.

Been digging the hell out of the entire album w/ "Bloody Knuckles," "Romulus and Remus" and "King of Days" getting the most repeated spins...the first three tracks are gold in my book, but the deep tracks are fucking outstanding...I tried to give the new Vitus album its due, but it only made me want to listen to "King of Days" a few more times...not bashing the Vitus album..."King of Days" is just that damn good...the new (and massive) Conan album is about the only other album that has interrupted my obsession with this album.

I love HOF. They've been one of my top ten bands since I first saw them twice in 2002. Surrounded By Thieves and Art of Self Defense will always be essential for me. Matt Pike is a personal hero of mine and one of the reasons I've been doing what I've been doing for the past six years or so.

It's obviously not my place and I'm just a fan running my trap, but I would like nothing more than to see HOF go the way of Neurosis. Stop living the road dog lifestyle, get stable day jobs, and just let the creativity flow. As several people above me have pointed out, the albums they've been putting out will average a handful of great songs and some throwaway songs. Yeah, in that sense, they're kinda like Motorhead, and we're all the better for their being around and bringing metal to the masses.

But I think if the guys took some real time, they could put out something that is totally mind bending. The honest truth is when I hear a song like Fertile Green, I hear a band that is running out of ideas. The main riff sounds like Waste of Tiamat redux. That's not to say it isn't killer shit and I wouldn't be banging my head to it in a live setting. I just hate seeing such talented guys get seemingly caught up in this rat race cycle of writing albums in order to tour.

Anyway, anything HOF put out is better than 99% of the stuff coming out today. Support.

And just to be clear- I think the "Neurosis" model is THE BEST model for all bands, not just HOF. Creativity should take precedence over the business side of things, in my book.

HOF used to tour a lot more than they do now. What is ridiculous is that Matt is treading water touring with Sleep when he has a great new album to take out on the road. Wish they were doing a club tour and not the big package deal this Summer.

I understand the Sleep thing pretty well. A few shows here and there will easily pay several months worth of rent, I presume. Why the hell not?

Not being a fan of Sleep I still have no real issues with that reunion.

I just wish HOF would have done a small club tour before/instead of tagging along that big package thingy. Though I certainly do not fault them or begrudge them for their decision. The relentless touring they have done over the past 11 or so years they earned the right to make that decision.

High on Fire headlining in Chicago sells just about as many tickets as a Sleep show here. Of course the rest of this dreadful country might not be able to deliver so effectively.

Sleep has more of a name to throw around and more of a demand right now, plus they have a reissue to pay for (http://www.southernlord.com/sleep.php). It seems fair to assume there will be another High on Fire tour lined up before the end of the year, and likely headlining as far as possible from the Sleep/Mayhem environment.

That's what a good lp should do, make you want to take out 3D glasses and fucking trip face at an album cover.

What a fucking awesome album to do that to.

Sounds like the answer to the Sleep v. High on Fire touring issues would be for both bands to co-headline a tour...total pipe dream but that would kick major ass.

Matt has always maintained that Portland is one of the best High on Fire towns in the country and after all this time they (HoF) still play third or fourth billing at the same theater they sold out on their own when SLEEP played.

I'm not saying it's fair, it just is what it is.
