It seemed like there was a huge run on pitching early so I stuck with offense until it calmed down a bit. The selection of the 2nd tier pitching definitely opened and it was easy to get a lot of those guys.
Yeah, I felt like I really reached for Hamels at #23, but being at the end of the line where I was in the order, if I didn't reach for a higher 2nd tier then I would have gotten skunked at my next shot at #47.
Hamels is one of my only NL starters and he got his ass lit up tonight. I hope it isn't an omen of things to come.

I am just going to go for holds, concede saves, and call it even if I can.
That is always my strategy. Let people froth at the mouth about the closers that they say are worth so much. I pretty much won each H2H H category last year just by having David Robertson on my roster last season. This year I've got three set-up men and I got them really cheap. Non-closer relievers really vary in their output year-to-year, so I'll probably throw the three of them up against the wall and see who sticks and ditch one of them. Clippard and Venters should be shoe-ins, but I basically am not trusting anything about Atlanta this year. And Boston to a lesser extent.

For starting the league so far into the season I'd have expected that the free agent pool would be made open immediately rather then the standard 3 day waiver period. Teams with guys on the DL get screwed if they need fill a roster spot.
I think this is a Yahoo thing for leagues starting after the opening weekend. My "pro" league which also drafted last night, is set up the same way. Speaking of which, that'll be the first MLB league I've been that doesn't count TB. That's really gonna fuck me up. It's basically the first stat I draw to to determine whether my team is keeping up with the Joneses. I'm not sure I like the Yahoo pro/money leagues, but it does take the factor of flaky commissioners out of the equation at least, I guess.
