Firstly, I feel pretty ignorant due to the fact that I'm from New Zealand...

But anyone know much about the Dead C... or a good place to start with them?

Thanks!

Oh man, one of my favorite bands and a huge influence on the music I create (along with Sun Ra, Sun City Girls, Can and King Crimson). The Dead C cover an amazing range of sound, from raw punk noise to exquisitely crafted improv psych. Recommending an album depends on your taste. Harsh '70s Reality is generally considered their best record and i wouldn't disagree with that. Operation of the Sonne and Trapdoor Fucking Exit are essential too. Really, all of their recordings have moments of pure unexpected brilliance, so it's worth taking your time to listen and discover. This isn't easy listening stuff but the rewards are many.

Cheers Snailhook. I'm thinking about beginning with Harsh 70's reality, The White House, and Patience.

Wow...just listened to some tunes you tube spits out...experimental, yes indeed...reminds me of the electric noisy Krautrock era, perhaps some influences of Stockhausen as well...pre- industrial punk..either you like or you'll never spin this again

The last replay's not even worth a mention BUT it is deffo worth to mention that crab like that is dropping the fun of contributing to a conversation as it goes 'n solely pisses me off. I'm not seeing the tiniest trace of hair growing on those sleazy balls hidden behind pic's I remember floating 'round primary school. Yes, even Mr Anonymous can lose his face...

great band one of my favorite. ugly abrasive noise mixed with beauty and grace. the way it should be. should be a more well known band.

Dude, if your gonna listen to anyone about this listen to Snailhook- this is s'thg he can really fact you up on. Personally I always liked'm- their song/skronk/flow ratio is right on. I remember talking to Bill Weiland, from FUZZHEAD * one of theee great "cassette" era bands about his favorite stuff and he was all over these guys.

* Rangle tangle Can, Ohio basement funk, proto-indie folk smut, (Fugs, Love), and all the stuff Spacemen Three dug and yr basic ole rock and roll per thumpity into a great thing- I have 8 or so of their tapes and a couple cds and all are good. Check the bins for the "high in a basement" lp from '95 on Heliocentric. I saw'm three times back then and wish they'd had a tour with Royal Trux to drive the point home. Oh yeah if you like this sorta thing and want something else with a linear flow to itch yr Kraut jones pick up the Cul de Sac recs., any of 'm.

I saw The Dead C supporting Kevin Drumm and Sunn0))) in Sydney in 2005. I don't get the hype.

Didn't someone on the old board see The Dead C in NZ where the guitarist answered his mobile mid performance and carried on a conversation for 5 or 10 minutes mid set?

That was pretty much the impression I got of them when I saw them. Not terribly interested in playing or terribly interesting. Mind you, that whole show was pretty disastrous, the highlight of the night was one of the Grimmrobed o)))nes kicking over a stack and storming off stage (the front of the stage) and out the door of the venue in a petulant hissy fit.

This was just before, or just after the Nyabinghi death handshake/monitor throwing/champagne stealing episode, so it was pretty interesting from my perspective.
