Good song, still convinced HOF needs Billy Anderson's production to bring out the most in Matt's riffing.

All I can say is "DAMN"! I listened to the first 30 seconds of this. I really got this anality (is that a word? Is now.) about hearing songs before the release. But, this sounds pretty badass! Kurt certainly is known for a level of ferocity in his body of work. Seems he's brought a little of that to the already incredibly ferocious HOF! If the biggest problem with the new HOF is that it sounds like some old HOF, we are GOOD! Pike's tones and riffs are truly unmistakeable Love the cover! Can't wait!

for some reason (can't really say if it's the production, the songwriting, the riffs or the vocals) this is way too hardcore-ish for me...I wish they went back to death is this communion sound...

producing with hardcore vets can have this effect. not sure about what effected the recycling maybe HoF is going greener to help the planet. listened to stream and the album torches first listen through just not keen on staying power. doubtful this will keep it up for me like earlier releases maybe get this geezers some viagra for next album.

Just about through my first listen of the stream...

A couple tracks that drew me in (madness of an architect, romulus and remus, warhorn) but overall can't I get the feeling this will be any better than their last two have been.

Enjoying when they slowed things down on this album.

Strange, I think this is a much better record than the last which I didn't care for at all, and a few of the tunes rank up there with my favorite HOF tunes. Madness of an Architect is amazing. The production is the best of any HOF to date in my opinion.

I'll be listening to this one on repeat for a while.

After one full listen (thank you NPR) I'm calling it like this: First three in that order, then this, then DITC, then SFTD. Mind you, no disrespect to any (and I LOVE Frost Hammer). Their entire catalog is still miles above most bands I listen to in terms of number of times I go back and relisten to any album. I love everything this band has put out and will support them each year each album each tour any way that I can. They're the only metal band I listen to that when a new album drops, I HAVE to have it that day of release.

HOF has been something special in my life for over a decade. Yeah, the groove of TAOSD is mostly gone, but DVM brings it back slightly, with just a pinch of the war metal beauty that is SBT.

Cannot wait to hold this in my hands, read the fucked up lyrics, and hear these songs live. Not doing this whole Mayhem festival thing though: HOF have earned their place as headliners and that's how I like to see them, no matter who they bring out with them.

Congrats on another monster boys, this thing slays and I'm damned proud to soon be owning it.

This one is much better than the last two. Polished, but not in a sense of sounding too polished. The riffs are crisp and the drums are dialed in fantastic.

This nonsense of it sounding 'too hardcore' is just what it is: nonsense. If attributing Ballou to this project, and adding critique because he's in Converge, makes it too hardcore, you're seriously stuck at a level of bitching for the sake of bitching. Using some *yawn* research on Ballou as a way to make yourself sound like you have ears of the engineer just chalks it all up to internet idiocy.

I digress.

Fine album. It is High on Fire after all, but the songs get a bit samey sounding, though the riffs are fantastic. I'm liking the solos, especially in the later parts of Bloody Knuckles/Madness of the Architech. I think Ballou and Bayles have a way of making the solos sting. More highs, less muddled, imo. Searing stuff..he's totally capable and goes without saying but sticking to one engineer can make or break their sound. They are after all, a live band first, imo. The drums are as dialed in as anything they've done.

The instrumental is cool (Samsara)..different, The bass tones are nice in this one. Good to see Matz shine here. with some tasteful solos coming over the top. Kind of brings me back to Master of Puppets..I think it's the whole interlude feel of it.

King of Days is the strong one here, imo...great writing on this one...monolithic feel. Goosebump track, and 7 minutes of that feeling puts it at the top of the heap for me.

The title track is a typical High on Fire sounding deal..skimmed through it..the last part of it has a AOSD feel to it

I think the album has it's ups and downs..the ups are real good, the samey sounding stuff..well wont stand the test of time for me. Live is always the difference for me with some of this stuff. Production is definitely not the issue...I think Ballou makes this stuff shine.

The correct term for what you're trying to say is "I digress".

Nah, we all regress when we listen to High on Fire.

Jury's still out for me, but the production is definitely better than the last album.

First, Black Cobra...now, High on Fire...Ballou's production on both bands' latest albums speaks for itself...dude's a helluva producer regardless of genre.

As for the new High on Fire album, it, like all but the previous album, makes me want to pillage, plunder, drink, smoke, fuck and drive extremely fast all at once...visceral reactions aside, this is arguably their most complete and balanced album since SBT, IMO....the doomier songs rank among the best they've done...and while Pike and Dez get well-deserved attention for their playing, Matz continues to strut his stuff on bass...have loved that dude's playing since his Zeke days.

Album comes out on Tuesday. I'm going to hold off listening to the album stream and just wait until my preorder arrives next week.

After listening the whole album I realized I quite like it. The production is different but much more clearer which is great when you get used to high on fire sound like that. I'll give it a few more spins, but even now it's much better than the last one.

Is it possible to still hold the band in very high regard, always go see them, always answer in the affirmative to anyone asking about them, yet be kind of weary of their records at this point? I think I'm that guy; they seem to have said everything they're gonna say, to me at least

The first time I heard Fertile Green I was totally blown away.
Since then I've listened to Bloody Knuckles, and yesterday I streamed the full album.
And god damn! This is just so ridiculously good! I can't see how this album could dissapoint me. So far HoF has never done anything of the sort. I must say though, that Snakes.. took a bit more getting used to than the previous albums, but when it sank in, it just wouldn't let go. I think the same will go for de Vermis..
In my opinion HoF is the best metalband around today, together with Kylesa and Mastodon (although they have started to fulfill that The New Metallica-prophecy).

First Conan, now High on Fire; the crushing factor of my preorders is staggering.

Madness of an Architect followed by Fertile Green, Romulus and Remus, and Samsara. This album is hitting all the right places for me.

With the gnarly chainsaw bass intro? Madness of an architect. I think I've listened to it like 6 times today.
