I pretty much only like his country stuff. The last two Wayne the Train records, "Viper of Melody" and "Tulsa" are a couple of the best "new" traditional country albums I've heard. Wayne is thee fucking man. Dale Watson is also excellent. Then there are all the legends but that's a whole thread in itself.

Not a huge country fan, but I love old school, outlaw country! I do dig III! I like his new Doom (-ish) album, "Attention Deficit...". I like Assjack too. As far as country, I have "Lovesick, Broke & Driftin", "Risin' Outlaw" and "Straight To Hell", which is my favorite of III's country albums. If you haven't heard them, you might like Whitey Morgan and the 78's? They're on Smallstone. Cool new outlaw country from Detroit...of all places?

Live, he and his band(s) are excellent, they consistently deliver one of the best shows out there, but personally the records don't do it for me too much. You might get better results just going deep into the grand classics?

Recently caught Billy Joe Shaver live...one of the best shows I've ever seen by far...Ray Lawrence Jr. and James Hand are a couple of additional old school country artists worth checking out as well...Chris Knight is also pretty damn awesome, but I wouldn't classify him as old school country.

Straight to Hell still gets regular rotation on my car drives. But I agree about sticking with the basics of his grandpappy and peers. Not that I would really know.

on the lighter side, but in the same category- check out Unknown Hinson. if you like what you hear, he will be going on tour soon- do yourself a favor and catch this guy live, he puts on a great show and will speak with every person afterwards. if you have seen the Squidbillies, he is the voice of Early.
