Alex Smith is probably not the best QB to be paired with Captain Quit.

Brandon Marshall was traded to the Bears for 2-3rd round picks. The Dolphins made the deal because Manning doesn't want to play with Marshall. It wouldn't surprise me now if Manning and Wayne sign with the Dolphins.

Makes it more appealing to Manning. Great for the Fins regardless.

VJax seeking 17million per season. Haha, no thanks and good luck with that.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, free agent Vincent Jackson to the Bucs is "close to a done deal."
Flush with salary cap space, the Bucs went strong after V-Jax while the Redskins and Rams turned to Pierre Garcon. Per NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, other teams are already moving on, realizing they can't compete with the Bucs. The only legit No. 1 receiver on the market, Jackson would be a boon for Josh Freeman's fantasy value.

Redskins agreed to terms with WR Pierre Garcon, formerly of the Colts.
They're also expected to sign Josh Morgan shortly, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Garcon, who turns 26 before the season, chose Washington over St. Louis. The fit is solid in D.C. in that offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan knows Garcon's strengths and weaknesses from their time competing in the AFC South. Garcon figures to be Robert Griffin's top receiver with the Redskins. His run-after-catch skills suit Shanahans' West Coast offense, though the club will be disappointed if it expects Garcon to emerge as a double team-drawing No. 1 wide receiver. He's ideally suited as a complementary-type, No. 2.

feelers are buzzing...

Buccaneers reach deal with Vincent Jackson, 4yr $53M ($20M Guaranteed).

Should be worth it if he produces and it lasts till he's 33. Price is a little steep but what're we gonna do. Not too bad.

Time to work on Nicks if this goes through.

Bears signed QB Jason Campbell to a one-year contract.
The Bears appear to have learned from the ghosts of Caleb Hanie after the lack of a suitable backup to Jay Cutler doomed their 2011 season. It's a poor landing spot for Campbell from a playing time perspective, as Cutler had missed just one career start since becoming a starter in 2007 before his freak thumb break last season. He'll llikely be paid as one of the league's top backups, however, and will get to test the market again in 2013.

Not sure why he felt the need to rush into this signing on day one.

Eagles re-signed franchise player DeSean Jackson to a five-year, $51 million contract.
It's just $4.5 million less in total money than Vincent Jackson landed from the Bucs on Tuesday. D-Jax had been set to make $9.4 million under the franchise tag. It's curious timing since Jackson appeared to be willing to play under the tag coming off his disappointing 2011 "prove it" campaign, but with the receiver market all but dried up, the Eagles are gambling a new deal will motivate a player who appeared to phone it in at times last year.

Raise your hand if you saw this coming? I didn't.

ESPN's Adam Schefter ranks the Broncos and Titans as favorites to land free agent Peyton Manning.
"I think that the Dolphins and the Cardinals are in the second category," said Schefter, "and I think the Broncos and the Titans are in the first category." Schefter believes the Titans hold a "certain allure" for Manning because of his connection to the area. In handicapping the sweepstakes, NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora gave the Dolphins a "0%" chance of signing Manning. LaCanfora's colleague Michelle Beisner reports the Cardinals believe they are "very much in the mix."

With Locker supposedly ready and Hasselback in tow, Nashville seems like they should be focusing their attention elsewhere. Worse, it sounds like thats what all their football people wanted to do, they supposedly had Mario Williams as their prime target, but the owner had other plans. And I could see the allure of returning to TN being enough to motivate Manning to chose the Titans.

Still surprised he left AZ unsigned though. With Fitzegerald in tow, a domed stadium, seems like the Cards would be his best spot.

Hillis to KC 1 yr, $3 million. Someone misplayed their cards last year.

Laurent Robinson to Jax 5 years, $32.5 million. That's an overpay for an injury prone guy who hasn't been able to put up consistent #'s his entire career. And now he has either Gabbert or Henne, another JAX FA signing, throwing to him.

Cortland Finnegan to STL for $50 million.

Chris Carr to Dallas for 50.1 million.

John Carlson to Minny for5 years, $25. Another overpay and weird when they already had Kyle Rudolph.

Kyle Orton to Dallas for 3 years. Dallas does a good job not overlooking their backup QB spot.

And all the talk in Denver is that Nashville has become the most likely landing spot for Manning. If he chooses the Titans the Broncos should look into picking up Hasselback from Tennessee, he shouldn't cost too much and a vet like him should be able to put Tebow on the bench. I'd rather Locker, obviously, but I am sure if Manning goes to Nashville they'll just Aaron Rodgers Locker for the next couple years.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports free agent QB Matt Flynn will visit the Dolphins after Friday's meeting with Seattle.
This news comes on the heels of a report by ESPN's Chris Mortensen that Miami has been effectively eliminated in the Peyton Manning chase. The two news items are certainly related. Owner Stephen Ross is determined to make an impact move at quarterback, and Flynn has a multi-year relationship with coach Joe Philbin. The Dolphins should have a substantial edge on the Seahawks for Flynn's services.

I see an overpay in the works.

Brandon Lloyd to NE for 3 years and $12 million I read. An absolute steal...Eddie Royal got a lot more than him, how did that happen?

mario manningham signs with SF for 2 years.

Matt Flynn to Seattle for 3 years, $26 million. $10 million guaranteed. Had Miami down for him, wrong there. Like the deal for Seattle given their QB situation and this is probably just an expensive one year gamble.

Mike Tolbert signs a 4 year deal with Carolina.

They'll have to trade either Jonathon Stewart or Deangelo Williams now. I'd have to imagine Stewart is the one on the outs and there should be a nice market for him. Lots of teams could use a RB...Cleveland, Denver, Cincy, Washington, just to name a few.
