(Searched for a thread on these folks, but couldn't find one).

I saw them last weekend in SF, and thought their live show smoked. The CD didn't quite capture all of the aggressiveness of the playing/vokillizing, but I think the thing that impresses me most about the band is their songwriting ability--Rather than just stringing a bunch of Mercyful Fate-sounding riffs together, I think they actually manage to have a relatively distinctive take on the "classic" metal template. It's actually kind of unexpectedly cool to encounter lyrics about failed relationships in verse/chorus format in 2011, weird as that sounds.

But maybe everybody here already knows all this?

I finally caught them on New Years and yeah, that about sums them up. Pretty fun live band to see. I guess that kid that plays guitar on the left side of the stage is only like 16 years old or something.

Well, they wanted to go with "Rational Skeptic Mistress," but it was harder to fit on a t-shirt.

Ghost, good timing. They'll be in Oakland at Eli's Mile High Club tomorrow on their way home from SXSW.

thumbs up.

Their ep is ok, I was wondering why it was getting such hype. Didn't know it was all teens. Listen to the VA album "Heavy metal killers" album instead.

Nah, they're not all teenagers. The rest look like they're in their 20s, maybe 30s?

too heavy handed with the religious themes for this guy. checked em out, gave me a fair listen and promptly removed from any further spins. just not my bag. alot of buzz about em last year, but this stuff was a huge letdown for me

I saw that same show in SF(Hemlock Tavern?) and I was impressed. Their singer seems to have a strong, steady voice, she was't straining to be forceful, if that makes any sense. And I thought the rhythm section really drove the band. Tight. Good stuff, live they seem to have more of a presence than just listening to the cd. Didn't know the one guitarist was that young, he does look it though.

CHRISTIAN MISTRESS Signs With RELAPSE RECORDS - June 10, 2011

Relapse Records has announced the signing of "true American heavy metal warriors" CHRISTIAN MISTRESS. The Olympia, Washington-based band will enter the studio next month with Tim Green (MELVINS, THE FUCKING CHAMPS, MONOTONIX) to begin recording the follow-up to last year's "Agony & Opium" for a late 2011 release.

Commented CHRISTIAN MISTRESS: "In this offering our drive and power has branched from the roots of our beginnings. Wild and lightning-charged songs move ever forward in our attempt to reach the core."

CHRISTIAN MISTRESS — Christine Davis (vocals), Jonny Wulf (bass), Oscar Sparbel (guitar), Reuben W. Storey (drums) and Ryan McClain (guitar) — released its full-length debut, "Agony & Opium" in 2010 to critical acclaim and as toured alongside THRONES, SLOUGH FEG, and more in support of the release.

CHRISTIAN MISTRESS will perform in the Northwest this weekend alongside SLOUGH FEG and WITCH MOUNTAIN. Tonight's show is in Portland, Oregon at Plan B and the bands will be in Seattle, Washington tomorrow at The Highline. Additional tour dates will be announced shortly.

Pretty cool. I'm seeing them tonight, the same day as this announcement.

Love this band, love the lyrics, nice positive spin on things. Good to see in metal, I'd like a little more Christian mysticism, which is more my thing (if you read Black Pyramid lyrics, for example...), but their songs are awesome. Whoever pointed that out, I applaud you.

Nice that they signed to Relapse. They've been signing a lot of bands that I like lately, I've really liked their output as a label. Can't wait for the new Coffins.

They were great tonight, but in all honesty, Slough Feg should be the band getting signed to a bigger indie label. That gal in CM has some great charisma/stage presence though...

My favorite moment of the night was the slow blues burn Witch Mountain had. Really awesome. It's apparently unreleased (?). A sort of "Hand of Doom" type of jam.

It was good to get out with the peeps after a spell.

It really amazes me that Slough Feg aren't the biggest band in the metal world. Seriously.

I don't get Relapse's strategy in the current record biz climate, but they obviously have some sort of plan...

I like the off-kilter vibe I got from C.M. in general and her vocals in particular.

The main strategy now seems to be opening pizza parlors. You can't download pizza.

RELAPSE: I'd say I don't get Relapse's strategy, but I'm beginning to think there isn't much of one, unless you count throwing out a lot of random releases and seeing what sticks...for every awesome album (i.e. Tombs), there seems to be three or four bed shittings (i.e. Absymal Dawn, Inevitable End, Black Tusk, Howl)...I'd be curious to see their business plan and even more curious to see the reaction of a banker to it when they're looking for financing...

SLOUGH FEG: Without question, the most deserving band in metal when it comes to moving up the ladder...fucking outstanding band...

CHRISTIAN MISTRESS: Try as I have, I can't get their tunes out of my head...it's been a year since I got their 20 Buck Spin EP, and I still walk around humming the first minute of "Desert Rose."...dig the hell out of the singer's vocals too...

I listened to these guys (and gal) for the first time last night. Pretty good, didn't really knock my socks off, but I was interested right off the bat.

Funny thing though, one of my buddies was comparing them to Mars Volta. I was like "okay, yeah, maybe, at times". But then I realized that he doesn't have the frame of reference I do. He's a guy in his late 20s who never really listened to AC/DC or ZZ Top or even Zeppelin...a punk kid who started leaning metal as he got older. I'm thinking Thin Lizzy and he doesn't even recognize that style. When you go from Thursday to Eyehategod, you're not getting the basics of groove rock in there, so he has nothing to compare it too other than a couple of scrawny chicanos doing spastic 21st century prog rock.

Weird to me, as I'm sure it would be for most of you people.
