fuck it, I think they deserve to use the name Kyuss
And I'm pretty sure I saw Reeder comment several months ago on his FB that he thought they should drop the "Lives" and just call it Kyuss.

Shit, with a little luck we can have two Kyuss-line-ups touring, like Bad Company at one time. or Saxon.
Yes, the shows last year were cool and fun but they should have left the name rest in peace. Now there is money on the table and the lawyers and managers have taken over.

This is more really weird crap going down with Kyuss when you include Nick's upcoming trial. It this they've been cursed or something? Josh should just do what the fans want and he just be part of Kyuss again and then there'll be no need for laws or legacy issues. Whatever that even means?

And if Nick really did all those things they say he did it would be better to have Scott Reeder in the band anyway so there is someone stable.

What ever the circumstance, I'm sure Josh will prevail simple because of having more dough to lawyer up.

Josh's lawyers are so good that they convinced Scott to play along and show the world the underhandness that brant and John are causing by wanting to use their fucking bands name. Talk about choosing sides.

Even though the four people on stage wrote roughly 20% of the material they're playing?

Totally different situation. We actually are playing two brand new songs that we wrote once I joined the band, and contrary to popular belief Andy did not write all of the words and music for all of the Black Pyramid songs, believe it or not. Clay and Gein write riffs/songs, and we have a new one that Gein wrote 100% of the music for. For the next shows we play we should have four new songs that Andy had no hand in at all. Not taking anything away from Andy at all, as he was a huge part of the band, but to say that he was 100% responsible for the songs is totally inaccurate, especially now that we have brand new songs in the set. This thread is about Kyuss anyway, totally different set of circumstances.

Also, please keep in mind that Andy QUIT THE BAND but told everyone the band had broken up.

Look man I'm not ragging on you because what you guys are doing are special. What it all comes down to is John and brant are ready to make money off something they helped start. Unfortunatly the guy wanting to block this is the guy with all the money

Oh, I don't think you're ragging on me, just explaining the situation. If Andy wrote all of the music and owned the name "Black Pyramid" then things would be very different, but he was just one part of the band. Granted, he was a big part, but just a part nonetheless. Plus there's much less $$$ at stake with BP than with Kyuss. It's not like we're making money hand over fist. No offense taken, just trying to make sure things are somewhat clear.

The Kyuss thing is a little trickier as well in that when those guys play anything off of "And the Circus Leaves Town", the only one involved with that album was John. Nick, Brant and Bruno all had zero to do with those songs. And if John didn't write lyrics for some of those songs then it's quite possible that NOBODY onstage had a hand in writing the music or lyrics for those songs. Due to their convoluted and changing line-up, it kind of muddies everything up, which is unfortunate.

Pepper Keenan wrote everything for COC for 13 years. When the older members wanted to do it again he didn't try to stop them

When I was going to college in Rochester in the late 80's just about every other month there was a different version of Foghat and/or Steppenwolf playing.

Nick only wrote "Mondo Generator". Brant wrote three and co-wrote three others. Homme wrote or co-wrote nine.

Garcia wrote "Yeah". Good for him.

I'm pretty sure that video interview is being taken out of context with that article (i.e. it was recorded several months ago and clipped into this relatively recent news story). John mentions in it they're in New York and playing that night.

Kyuss Lives! might put together a prepared PR statement, but I doubt we see any recorded live commentary regarding the lawsuit.

If anyone has claims to the name Kyuss, I would have thought it was Gary Gygax.

Jesus what a shitty turn of events. That expression of Brant's in the video is him trying to make the connection between four high school friends making music together and them suing one another.

This is one result of turning the righteous endeavor of making music into a vehicle to pay the bills. As soon as a check is on the table, friends become enemies. Rules get thrown out. And I'm not saying I would act any differently. I would like to think I would, but who knows. That is the evil power of the greenback.

Why is it that Mario Lalli, Fredo Hernandez, and the rest of those high school buddies continue to make music, regardless of line up and band name? Because they haven't had money fuck things up. And thus they've been able to focus on the important things, like playing music with your buddies.

So the moral of the story, if you're in a band, and someone offers you money, do not say "Cool, I'm getting paid for doing what I love to do." There is a catch, there always is. And this story is that lesson. Rip up that check.
Or send it to me.
