That tour is on its way here (AR), I think it's the 15th or thereabouts. Pretty mixed bag o' heavy styles, should be fun..

Great show. Had a blast and got a chance to talk to C.O.C. afterwards. I've met those 3 guys a few times over the years and they've always been very cool. They even gave me free beer. Class act.

Good to hear. I have an aweful work scedule for going out. This may be the only time in my life I hope for mid-week shows. Anyone hear the GBV covers thing that Torche did? I know the songs are gonna be good but wondered how they took'm on.

It was about half old stuff (Animosity/Technocracy) and half from the new tape.

Just got back, I had driven to The City with friends living there. Idk, COC was really disappointing. Where was there singer? Why did they have the bassist singing, and only one guitar? We were expecting to hear their awesome classics songs from Deliverance and Wiseblood. Instead we knew none of the songs. No Albatross or Clean My Wounds. Nothing. They really disappointed everyone I was with.

I went for Torche and they were awesome! Really glad to see them live. Really high standards and expectactions after getting into the albums. Thanks guys! Saw all of the bands because we were unsure when Torche would play and ended up very early. Nice place, we drank way too much tbqh. Valient Thor was weird and Storm of Light was boring.

CoC made their name initially as a hardcore punk/metal crossover act in the 80s. The band you saw are the founders. They're the 3 piece lineup from that time (Mike Dean-bass, Woody Weatherman-guitar, Reed Mullin-drums). Pepper joined for the Blind record circa 1990 when they started to switch their approach to all out metal. Pepper is not currently in the band due to his "Down" commitment. They've all said on several occasions that they'll hook back up with him down the road for more "Deliverance" style mysic. The new record encapsulates all eras of the band and is great. You should check it out since you're unfamiliar with the classic 3 piece. Also pick up "Animosity" from '85.

Haha. I was wondering when the "non-Pepper" stuff was going to start hitting the fan. As much as I love the new record, I think the decision to not play any live Deliverance, Wiseblood, etc. is a huge mistake. It's like Iron Maiden going on tour with Paul Dianno and not playing anything from Piece Of Mind, Powerslave, or any of the other shit that made them a household name.

And I know there are some of you who think Maiden died when Bruce came on board but you are completely high. I love the Paul Dianno era stuff. But it ain't the same. Either is COC without Pepper.

It's bound to happen. They would have pretty much cemented legendary band status if they'd hung it up after Animosity/Technocracy, which (unlike Maiden) is a pretty widely divergent sound from their 90's-00's output. Personally, I thought the Blind/Pepper direction they took after that 80's crossover sound was rad. They were southern gents that probably played shows with Trouble/The Obsessed and were always fans of Black Sabbath, so wtf?

I haven't heard a note of the brand new stuff. It's apparently a melding of the two styles? I dig Mike on vocals, but it is hard for me to imagine him singing the Pepper album stuff live.

Personally, at this point, I'd be the most stoked about seeing a reunion of the 'Blind' era C.O.C.. They could have Mike be the bass player or whatever.

For whatever reason, everytime I've seen C.O.C. (probably five/six times 1995-2001) they've fell a bit flat/gotten their asses smoked by another band on the bill. I've been a guy that's been saying Pepper should just stick to DOWN for the last ten years or so. He leaves a lot to be desired as a live vocalist, unlike Phil Anselmo, who is pretty much always amazing.

i saw them touring on blind, and i wouldn't mind seeing that again, either. not been too impressed with the righteous fool/new coc stuff, but what can you do? they've been pretty sloppy the few times i've seen them. even for the old stuff, which was always pretty messy, but they at least remembered how the songs went back then. they did try 'vote with a bullet' when they played in asheville, but the shit collapsed. eek.

also, i've never liked the pepper stuff between blind and the new one, so hearing about people going to see the mike-lineup and being upset about not hearing the 'big hits' kinda turns on the little easy-bake oven light in my heart. do your homework, kids!

Indeed, some folks don't seem to know or care that they were a ragin' band long before Pepper came along. Two separate sounds and eras.

I saw the tour last night and they were great. A Storm of Light were awesome, too, much more riff oriented and heavy than I recall them being (two or three years ago). Valient Thorr bring the stoner/tavern rock (I'd never listen to albums like that, but they were good onstage) I dunno if they're doing the denim vests/beards thing ironically or not, haha.

Torche were badass, too.

Put me in for don't care. They weren't very good and didn't play what lots of people wants to hear. I wouldn't want to go see that again and lot of people wouldn't have if they knew that was what it was going to be. I was being nice saying Valient Thor was weird because I really just think I didn't get it. The music was not obnoxious with lots of yelling or noise but it they have this weird gimick to them that is also annoying. And it took away from the performance. Torche really saved the night, they were awesome and I was happy from them.

They were a band long before Pepper Keenan joined, Dinger. Aw, no "Albatross"?

C.O.C. did a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Albatross" when Pepper was in the band?
