See, i've long admired Chicago, going back to the Larmer/ Savard days, but I thought that they had a great team in the early 90's with Roenick, Belfour, and Hasek. When Hasek's your backup, you know you're doing alright. I thought that they had great scoring with lots of toughness (Peluso and Grimson were probably my favorite tough guys in the early 90's). It was a shame that they didn't win the Cup then. But then again, there's been the local connections to those teams (Belfour is from Carman, just a half hour away from here; Toews and Keith are from Winnipeg).

Winnipeg destroyed Florida tonight at 7-0. I mean, that's a complete fucking dismantling of a team, especially two teams that are going at it for first place in the division. The only worse drubbing of a team in one game this year was probably Boston vs. Calgary, at what I remember being 8-0 (or was it 9-0?). Though we've had our consistency issues, this type of game sends a message--"we want first place, motherfuckers, and we're coming for not just the 8th playoff spot, but preferably higher than that". Sure they were without Versteeg (they're an average team without him), but we've usually had one or two of our main guys (Byfuglien, Kane, Wheeler, Little) injured for multiple or more games in a row. You have to find a way to win without that type of firepower, and needless to say, they didn't.

We had a five on one rush goal at full strength. Five on one! No doubt it's on the highlights tonight. Can't remember the last time a team got caught on a five on one.

See I'm an Avs fan.....So right there, you can tell how many people hitch on THAT bandwagon these days.

But they'd be welcome to it. Especially when we get blanked by the worst team in the league while in the middle of a playoff rush. /grumble

Man, Krejci came up huge tonight, and he was pretty overdue. Capped off the trick with an OT winner. He looked like a man possessed all night, which is something I've never really seen from him. He's always been good, not a player that you can't help but notice every time he's on the ice. Must have been the new line combos.

My father was a huuuuuge blackhawks fan, but thats when i was younger...J.R., Chelios, Belfour days....He's kept his pride..regardless. Whats funny is that growing up in this area, you always cheer your own team, but since you know they aren't gonna win you always have a back up.

You guys brought up the 94' canucks, I don't even remember much of them other than Kirk McLean..that I had the game on Sega haha.

SO YEAH

I must be a terrible Flyers fan because the last thing that I want to do is a Jagr bomb.

In typical Flyers fashion they suffer another major injury. Just as he was rounding back into form from his earlier concussion, van Riemsdyk finally decides to block a shot and ends up breaking his foot. Out 4-6 weeks.

Anyone see the end of the Wild/Canadians game last night? We caught the final 10 minutes of the 3rd, got excited as the Wild made their comeback, and laughed at the ridiculousness of Setoguchi falling down on his penalty shot. The hockey gods give, the hockey gods take away.

Oh yikes, that's every player's nightmare! Falling down and not even making the shot. In fairness, the ice could have been bad; you hit one of those ruts and it messes things up, but still, that's embarrassing either way.

Hahaa, that's the one! How do you get smoked on a five on one? It had to be seen to be believed, because it does not happen that often. The even stranger thing is that it wasn't on a line change.....the other players just somehow got burnt in the offensive zone. Hainsey was the guy that was the most behind that may have caught a Florida player had the puck been turned over, but had the one FLA player or someone else somehow got the puck to the other four Florida players, it would have been an outright breakaway, a three or four man breakaway.

Sounds like every Blackhawk fan at Avs games.

Except for one 20 year old douchebag in a Mikita jersey. Seriously, that's like me wearing a Yankees Babe Ruth jersey.

Another solid outing today against the Wings.
Hawks have taken 8 points out of a 10 max from Detroit this year.
Every game has been a 1 goal game so far. I hope they hook up in the playoffs (if indeed the Hawks do make it)

So much fun, and it reiterated my opinion that Kronwall is such a coward he should be in a 'nucks jersey.

Aside from the fact that the Wings outplayed them and still lost (check the stats as well as the video), why do you think Kronwall is a coward?

I would have no problem with the Wings meeting the Hawks in the playoffs...if the Hawks even make it. ;)

ETA: Their defense is horrible, and they were lucky to get out of this one alive. I would much rather take my chances against their performance this season as opposed to the Blues, Canucks or Predators. Those three are much more solid teams.

Yeah, they were outplayed, but a win is a win.
Kronwall is a coward because he headhunts, and when confronted he skates away. One of these days someone on another team is going to put the hurt on him, justifiably. Too bad, too because he is talented, and he is either going to hurt someone seriously, or get himself some Shannabans.

I'll take the Hawks chances against Detroit versus the other 2 division teams. The biggest thing is who will be healthy when the playoffs roll around. Beating a team without Lidstrom, and Datsyuk isnt the same as beating a healthy Wings squad in a 7 game series. If Toews doesn't return, the Hawks (if they even make the playoffs) won't beat anyone.

Lot of time left though, 4 games left against St Louis, 2 against Nashville, and 1 against Detroit. This team can really control its destiny through those 7 games.

I think that earlier in his career, he was guilty of leaving his feet and getting the arm up...but from what I've seen, he seems to have that under control now. I like fighting, but I don't think that giving hard, clean hits requires a guy to fight. I'm kind of sick of seeing teams go after a guy for giving a legal, hard hit as if any hard hit is now a 'cheap shot'...like his recent hit on Ales Hemsky, which was completely legal, yet immediately, here comes the goon.

And some teams have put the hurt on him:

He still leaves his feet on a regular basis. maybe not as badly as he did in the past....

If he stays on his feet, i have no problem with "his" hits. He blows guys up. has done it for years. He should make guys rethink how they play the puck in their defensive zone.
But when he slips into head hunting mode i have a huge problem with it. Hitting, particularly big hits are great, malicious or lazy hits that end seasons or careers are problematic. Kronwall straddles that line on a regular basis.

I do agree that not every big hit needs to be the start of some sort of fight. When you have a guy like Kronwall, who has a certain reputation, those things will happen with more frequency.

That Stewart hit is garbage. The three game suspension was laughable as well.
The worst thing about that video is Pang & his cohort trying to make excuses for a hit they obviously didnt see. When the replay is shown it sounds like Pang is gonna faint.

So it doesn't seem like I'm singling out Kronwall, or saying the Hawks are choirboys:
Carcillo's (hopefully) final shift with the Hawks.
Piece of shit.

I don't necessarily agree that he 'still does it on a regular basis', but I do agree that he left his feet with the hit on Kessler, which was over-the-line. Granted, it's hard to be a big-hitter, and not cross the line occasionally...but I still think he's reeled it in over the past year or two.

I certainly wouldn't consider him a 'headhunter', although the term 'opportunist' is one I would agree with. That's what big hits are...seeing the opportunity in advance, and making it happen. Scott Stevens was a master at this.

You didn't need to convice me that Carcillo is a piece of shit; I already decided that a while ago...but I appreciate the fact that you're not just pointing fingers at everyone else, while being blind to your own team's faults.

(Why hawks fans hate Kronwall) haha

With the peg's win last night the hole here in D.C just got deeper. This season is becoming a complete flop for the caps. Season isn't over yet but these last games are gonna make or break for the 8th seed and back because it's so tight. The west is just as interesting because LA is on a roll, Anaheim, Colorado seems to be doing better..

Also read today that Sid's been cleared for contact. The pens will be monster once he gets back into the lineup.

We can agree to disagree, I suppose.

Scott Stevens was indeed the master of that same style hit. He was brutal, and unrepentant about it.

That's not the reason (haha), just one example of crossing the line. Anyway, I really don't want to turn this into a thread bitching about one player. I've said my piece.

It's good to hear Crosby's been cleared. I hope he is truly healthy, and can stay that way. The league is better when guys like Sid play. I would hate to see his career go the way of the Lindos brothers.

I just watched the Avs dominate the Wild from up close and enjoyed the hell out of it. I'm always impressed by how good these guys really are when you watch them up close (7th row). So many quick, excellent passes when there was only a split second to make a decision.

Everybody's head was up and none of them ever looked at the puck. That may seem obvious to most of you, but try it at home - then try it on the ice.
They're so fucking good.

Good win. When they work, they really work. This playoff push is brutal. Dallas and LA keep winning. If the Avs make it into the post season it will be one of those nail biting situations on the last day of the schedule. Which I love/hate.

Glad Mcguinn got a goal. But I'm still sour getting blanked by the Bluejackets. Betting up on Minnesota for a few days had to feel good.

I've made up my mind, I'm getting an O'Reilly jersey.
