I've been hearing on the local sports radio around here that the Wings are wanting a power forward, someone that can go to the net and can get aggressive on the boards. Makes me wonder if they're looking at a series against Boston. Bertuzzi doesn't seem to be the guy that will get nasty in the corners. I also heard recently the Wings radio color guy talking about how he felt they would keep Conklin around, as he's good in the lockerroom. McDonald is playing well, overachieving IMO, but if Howard goes down around playoff time, it might be a good idea to have a mentor for McDonald. I think the Wings have around 5 mil left on the cap?

are there seriously any montreal fans on here?

I ask only because of the classlessness showed by the fans last night. Have they really lost a grip on the game, whats involved and that when it comes down to it; its a physical fucking game?

Chara spurns the fans on a hit last year, that frankly was just him smothering and finishing a check along the boards, smashing Pacioretty into the stanchion. I get it..its a hit that garnered NO suspension after being reviewed. Its a product of a poorly constructed rink, imo.

The fanbase puts so much pressure on the local police, they open investigation on him..still find this part unreal..

Then the crowd, in what was a great overtime game last night...booed like a bunch of school girls everytime Z touched the puck..I get it, though it's childish and taking it too far, I get it

But---to cheer when he takes the puck in the throat? Stay classy Montreal..you've lost sight of the physical nature of the game and seem to have lost all semblance of a 'hockey as religion' stature that you once earned. the3re seems to be a new breed of hockey fans up there, and not knowledgeable ones.

I didn't see it, but if they actually cheered a puck to the throat, that's disgusting. Fuck, I hated Claude Lemieux worse than any player I've ever watched, but I still wouldn't have wanted to see him get a puck in the throat.

A puck to the groin? Oh, definitely. ;)

To be fair, it wasn't like that puck did any damage to him, put him on the ice for a few seconds, but I don't think he missed any time. I was watching the game last night, and the fans were booing him every time he touched the puck. I think Montreal is kinda fucked anyways, seems all they care about is having a coach that can speak French, and then they threw him under the bus saying they would have a French speaking coach next year. Not sure if they meant he would learn it by then, or they'd get a new one.

That being said, I hate Chara, and his actions last year were cheap/typical. He should have been arrested.

My sentiments on Todd Bertuzzi. ;)

On Montreal, this year has really shown me the toxic nature of the Montreal fan base. Between the media clamoring about a french speaking coach and now this.

I understand how this plays in their mindset though. This rivalry has blood, history, and everything we love about an NHL rivalry. Naturally that keeps the fans (I don't think Montreal is unique in this) bloodlust way up. Especially since it's Chara, public enemy #1 for the Habs. That AND their team sucks, so they'll howl a war cry for a serious injury on a hated player because they can't cheer their team winning. As an Avs fan, it's an easy trap to fall in to.

Based on my memory of the hit, I don't recall it like that, nor do I consider Chara to be a dirty player. Just my opinion.

This.

Bad hit? Yes, intent to injure? I don't think so.

It wasnt Bertuzzi, or McSorley, that's for sure.
How Bertuzzi was ever allowed back, i'll never know.

Congrats to the hawks for breaking the slump tonight! and it some style!

I also wonder how grossman is going to fit into philly...Not much on the offensive side but it's not like PHI needs that anyways

well..might as well show the vid, not the final frame. he finished his check, as the puck was gone. it's a penalty..intent to injure? nope

puck to the throat and down and you cheer? ridiculous..btw--Pacioretty was twattering a few hours later, so the extent of the injuries were overblown. Should've been arrested? I think you're joking..right?

right?

Well, yeah, I was joking a bit. Still think it was a cheap hit, and I think we went through this last year. That's not the only cheap shot Chara has put on people either. Doesn't matter, I don't like the guy, never will.
If you all remember, there were a lot of people clamoring for an investigation/criminal charges when Bertuzzi did his thing(can't remember the player's name), as when McSorley hit Brashear? with the two-hander. Even Dale Hunter when he tuned up Pierre Turgeon. I'm certainly not in favor of that type of activity, but I think the police should stay out of those matters. Not defending Bertuzzi either, despite that I'm a Wings' fan. Interesting that he doesn't engage in much rough stuff, and he's probably the biggest player they've got, at least that does regular shifts on the ice.

Steve Moore. Watching this again, still makes my stomach hurt.

i think the last time the Hawks and wings played, Bertuzzi fought within the first 5 minutes of the game. Which was funny, because I clearly remember John Wiedeman saying how (at that point) Detroit had only had 4 fights all year, and then....

Hal Gill was just traded to the Predators for Blake Geoffrion, Robert Slaney and a 2nd round pick in 2012. Does this deal mean Weber or Suter wil be traded, or will they keep all three defenseman? Should be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks with the trade deadline approaching.

Thats a lot to give for a rental IMO, but that is the nature of deadline time deals.
I don't imagine that Nashville trades either Suter, or Weber. I think adding a tough (if old) D man is them gearing up for the playoffs. I think Nashville will be a VERY dangerous team once the post season rolls around.

That being said, come next season, Id love to see Suter in the indian head. Maybe his uncle can talk him into it :)

I think it's already been determined that they can't keep both Suter and Weber, so my guess is that they will trade Suter and try to pick up some offense, instead of waiting until free agency and getting nothing for him in return.

But who knows? Maybe they think their chances are that good, and are going for it all right now.

Their defense plus Rinne definitely gives them a great shot of going far in the playoffs. I this trade is going to start a flurry of deals.

I could see that, but my thinking is they keep both now to try and win. Weber has been very vocal about this team needing to improve. If I was a Nashville exec, i'd make a strong push to resign Suter in the off season, not match whatever offer Weber gets and take the 4 first round picks as compensation.

Perfect. I can't wait until the Wings sign him.

I think that is exactly what happens. Lidstrom retires, and Weber steps right in.

Or Pronger retires and the Flyers sign Weber with the money they are saving on him. I like this scenario better than the Wings signig him.

Mr Neutron - Heard a rumor, and I'm sure that is all it is, of maybe a trade of Kane for van Riemsdyk and Bobrovsky.

Oy.
He hasn't had the best of years, but I'm not sure it's time to move Kane.
He was playing really well when he was centering a line with Hossa. then the Coach Q lineup-shuffle-o-rama began, and his production has dropped, particularly Goal wise.

I'll have to poke around and see if this is brought up anywhere else......

Holy shit, what a way to end the game and keep the home streak alive! We had a faceoff in their zone with only 16 seconds left in the game. Won the faceoff but lost the puck, they kicked it out of the zone and Lidstrom chased it down...you'll see the rest in the clip. Fuckin' Datsyuk strikes again!
