^ The 49ers defense had a down game against the Saints...aside from the massive goal line hit that triggered the Saints fumble in the 1st quarter and the play of Justin Smith, who is arguably one of the most physical players in the NFL, there was not a whole lot of heavy hitting going on...if you're not getting your fix of physical intensity, just keep an eye on #94 for the 49ers...Smith's strength was on full display on this particular play...this is a Pro Bowl lineman he pushed into Brees on a bullrush, and then he reaches over the faltering lineman and drags Brees to the ground...Smith is an absolute animal...by far, the hardest working d-lineman in the NFC this year.

Yeah, #94 seemed to be forcing the Saints to double mark him. He looks like a bit of a beast.

So who's favourite now? I'd assumed the Packers were the obvious pick after the regular season.

Glad to see a 49ers-Giants matchup in the NFC...hats off to Coughlin & Co. for getting the defense to gel and jump starting that once woeful running attack...same to Belichick & Co. for getting a suspect defense to shut down Tebow not once, but twice, when arguably better defenses repeatedly fell short during the regular season...couldn't believe how out of sync the Packers were on offense yesterday...as I've said before, I'm not convinced the WRs beneath Jennings on the depth chart merit all the hype...they showed why yesterday...conversely, Nicks and Cruz showed why they do, in fact, merit the hype, and they could be the difference makers next week against the 49ers...as for GB's defense...well, it would be a stretch to call it a defense...glad to see arrogant pieces of shit like A.J. Hawk and Clay Matthews get a long overdue dose of humiliation.

Hellified match ups for both games next week w/ the AFC game being the more interesting of the two, IMO...anybody know if Ed Reed is okay after hurting his ankle/knee during the final play against Houston?...that could alter things if he's not back there knocking heads.

the packers had the worst defense in the league during the year. Not exactly a recipe for winning. What blows my mind is that it's basically the same defense from last year minus the one batshit crazy guy on the dline. Clay matthews is overrated and didn't aj hawk lose his starting job at some point? It's funny how much that defense seems to miss nick Barnett

You're mistaken about what the Patriots were "caught" for.

They were punished for filming from the sideline. NFL rules only allow filming from the stands.

The Patriots didn't take advantage of any kind of "special modern technology," they just had a cameraman on the sideline. In plain view. They never tried to hide.

In any case, multiple coaches have already admitted that they also had film from the sideline and not from the stands. This was rampant in the 90's and the teams that did this made no effort to conceal it.

Go back to whatever it is you do if you dont want to have open discussion, on an open forum, in a thread about football.

Broncos VP of Football Operations John Elway said at the team's season-ending press conference Monday that Tim Tebow has "earned the right" to be Denver's starting quarterback entering 2012 training camp.
"As it stands right now, we've got two quarterbacks under contract," Elway said, referring to Tebow and 2011 undrafted rookie Adam Weber. "We have to be in the market to find more quarterbacks." Elway praised Tebow's work ethic, and said he plans to spend "considerable time" with Denver's QB group this offseason.

So basically Tebow's future is up in the air. Those comments are a lot less affirmative than what had been coming from Denver headquarters leading up to last weekend.

I thought their defense played a nice game overall. NO's and Brees are an offensive juggernaut that I think are quite hard to completely shut them down. Overall they committed 5 turnovers, completely shut down the running game, took away the deep pass game, and Brees was never comfortable in the pocket. The fact that New Orleans was still able to come back had to do with the fact that Drew Brees is a hell of a quarterback.

Sounds like Brian Hoyer would be the better NE QB to target. Like I have said prior, I know nothing about him but what I have heard/read about his is intriguing.

Im actually surprised there wasnt any offers for Mallet this year with alot of qb's going down earl/mid season. The kid looked great in preseason..like almost ready. Tebow was actually glanced over draft time (supposedly), as you get that 'best available athlete' thing going..but theyve got enough tight end magic going right now (where he's better suited, imo)

By the middle of next season Denver will have a new starting QB.

I'm telling you man. Belicheck loves guys like tebow and mcdaniels drafted him. If tebow isn't in new England's backfield next year I will be suprised. Imagine what they would do with tebow as an h-back wildcat type of guy that can take snaps behind the center. It's scary

I really don't think Tebow is a Bellichek type of guy. Bellichek is a smart man and he knows that he can't win with him under center. How often has the Patriots used the wildcat? I would probably say they never have so this is all just a pipe dream that will never happen. I also highly doubt the Broncos will trade him just for the fact he'll put people in the seats at least for next year.

Just for funs sake I will say that Alex Smith had a phenomenal 4rth quarter but that his entire game consisted of only 6 great completions.

Really not trying to knock Smith, just having some fun. I do think he had the game I think he and every supporter has been craving. If that's a breakthrough game for him and not just a career game than he'll have disproved all us critics and he's emerged as the right quarterback for that team and earned himself a nice, long term contract from SF.

Honestly, that is the worst case scenario. The circus that would come along with a mid-season demotion would be nauseating. Dump him before the season if he isn't going to last a season.

It was arguably the 49ers worst defensive performance of the year, regardless of foe...they are capable of holding their own against red hot offenses w/ the most obvious case-in-point being their manhandling of the 5-0 Lions earlier this year...in the 4th Quarter, Brees exploited the biggest check against the 49ers defense - pass coverage...Rogers is a helluva d-back, but his compadres showed that they are the weakest link in an otherwise elite defense...and by compadres that includes Willis, who played a critical role in stopping the run but got posterized twice by Graham in coverage...definitely a down game by 49ers standards, despite a solid three quarters of play, IMO.

I'll add GB's Flynn to the mix of QBs worth pursuing...really intrigued by his potential as a starter.

I'd argue that this is what seperate Brees as being elite and Stafford as not yet there and that difference is what allowed Brees to find a way to overcome SF's defense and lead his comeback charge.

That said, I agree that the SF defense had its holes at the end. Forget which TD it was but at least one of those TD's was a definite result of not playing smart and going for the tackle, instead going big for the interception. I guess I just don't think that takes away from their game as a hole. Perhaps if they had lost I would be more critical.

I agree. I think he'll probably the top free agent QB on the market.

I don't quite see the Broncos being a player unless they commit to moving on from the Tebow era, as Flynn should demand a lofty salary, I'm thinking Kevin Kolb level, and whoever gets him will bring him in as the starter.

Not sure I heard this correctly, but I heard somewhere that the Browns want Kolb, which is odd given their potential draft options...gotta think Miami or Washington are likely destinations for Flynn...just saw where Brian Schottenheimer is going to be the Rams offensive coordinator...head scratcher, given how awful he handled Sanchez...Fisher must know something the rest of us don't...doesn't seem to bode well for Bradford.

yeah that had nothing to do with poor decisions by sanchez. yeah he should have never been given the leash he was given but a #5 draft pick is supposed to be able to come out slingin it nowadays. you cant blame that on schottenhiemer you have to blame the team for drafting sanchez in the first place
