The Nazz are awesome--one of my favorite bands. You can read an article that I wrote about them here
. My impression is that Todd Rundgren kind of dismisses that work, like alot of musicians do, when they consider themselves to be naive. Considering that Rundgren took on almost all of the writing and arranging duties, it's doubly impressive. I think that the Nazz were the first to really start the next wave of bands that were too late for the initial Mod invasion, where it was almost a tribute.....which became the first strains of power pop. They were too pop oriented to really be lumped into the garage movement, though they have some appeal--they're on the Nuggets series.
Check out The Move's "Shazam" too if you dig the Nazz....The Move were big influences on Cheap Trick, as well.
