Whoa, free show, in my hometown? Yeah I'm catching this gig. Actually thought Fu Manchu in November was my last gig of the year, so thanks for this pleasant announcement. :) Been living in Brooklyn since January and I haven't actually seen a show in a Brooklyn venue yet- wanted to see what this Saint Vitus bar is all about as they keep listing good shows, but there were other shows I wanted to see more in Manhattan the same months as those gigs. How's Hank's Saloon for shows? Loudish?

It's about time you get to some of the smaller venues! Hank's is a cool, little place; it might get kinda sloppy and drunkish. Maybe a little stabby. Most of the sound is from the stage (not the PA's), so it's loud if you are right up front, but not in the back.

Sounds quaint, thanks Ron! Yeah like I've said, I've been wanting to check out these Brooklyn joints, think I might hit Europa too in Feb. for Slow Southern Steel. Wish I had any drinkin money for this show though. Boo. What are Mighty High and Cortez all about? Just stoner rock? I've never heard either...I'm assuming they're of the southern flavor, based on the saloon's website...it's a damn honky tonk bar...hope my hairy athiest ass doesn't pummeled...

Heh, you'll do fine. Hank's has probably the least pretentious crowd of any bar in NYC that hosts bands. It's also the kinda place where you'll find old drunks pretty much any time of the day, any day day of the week.
I can walk to Hank's from my apt, which is nice.

Cortez play killer Black Sabbath style heavy rock with some kick ass Cactus style jams thrown in too. You'll dig 'em, or get your money back. They're going on around 10PM followed by Mighty High, who are very Manowarish. Loin cloths, swords, etc. They'll probably have their horses parked in front of the bar.
