Ellsbury definitely deserved the recognition and 1st place votes.

IF you eliminate the pitcher, in this case Verlander from MVP consideration...I really think Ellsbury deserved it. He singlehandedly carried that team (even in losses) in a season of injuries, underachieving, distractions and hell..even poor coaching decisions. If he doesnt hit like he did, this team is not even considered for post season. I know..the voters USUALLY pass the vote to a player on a successful/playoff team, but you can see even in a historic epic September collapse he garnered some serious consideration.

Im not saying Verlander didnt deserve it either. He was special this year. I just dont want to see CC Sabbathia type of performances to be anywhere near league MVP.

Braun is definitely one of the elites in the game right now, but the Brewers also had Fielder on that team. And Fielder is also truly elite. I think a guy like Kemp or Upton is just plain more valuable to their teams. If LA or AZ had Fielder at 1B, you don't think those teams would be immensely improved?

But Braun will get his true shot at carrying that team next season after Fielder signs with Seattle. :)

Glad Braun won it. Wouldn't have minded Kemp winning it but think Braun got it rightfully.

Bruce Chen re-upped with KC for 2 years, $9 million. Good deal for KC as he's been a pretty solid pitcher for them during his tenure there.

Sizemore re-ups with Cleveland for $5 million guaranteed, an extra $4 million possible if he can stay healthy and get at bats. Kinda surprised he chose to stay put with a number of teams interested in him, but I guess there's something to be said for familiarity.

Keith Law on the new CBA. Interesting take on things.

The Astros are expected to announce the firing of general manager Ed Wade on Monday, according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.
Wade took over in September 2007. In his four uninspiring years at the helm, Wade has made questionable trades -- such as swapping five players for Miguel Tejada -- and free-agent signings, like handing out Brandon Lyon's ludicrous contract. The Astros ended this past season 56-106, worst in the majors. Jim Crane recently purchased the team, which will move to the American League West in 2013, and appears ready to overhaul the moribund franchise.

Only shocker is that they waited this long.

Wade has been good at one thing. Helping other teams win. Not a good General Manager at all.

The Pirates have attempted to discuss a multi-year contract with McCutchen, but the two sides haven't made much progress until this point. It would be foolish to dismiss the possibility of a trade altogether, though they would likely have to be blown away in order to actually deal him. The 25-year-old remains under team control through 2015.

Am I crazy for thinking this, but apparently TB is open to trading James Shields so if I am TB I am calling them up and offering Shields and Upton for McCutchen and Joel Hanrahan.

His title could have been "Assistant to the General Manager (Ruben Amaro Jr)".

It won't surprise me if he is back in the Phillies front office in some capacity this year. Kind of a payback for giving the Phils Pence and Oswalt.

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik confirmed Monday that the Mariners plan to pursue Prince Fielder.
"There's no question we could use a big bat in the middle of our lineup," said the M's general manager, "but where is your limitation and threshold? We'll go down that road and experiment and see where it ends up, but until things get more definitive, we'll just have to wait and see." The Cubs, Nationals, Rangers and Brewers are also known to have interest in Fielder, who's likely to score a contract worth close to $200 million.

KC sings Jonathon Broxton to a 1 year, $4 million deal with a $1 million worth in incentives. He's been horrible the past couple years but a one year gamble is easy enough to eat if it backfires. If he can rebound, they have a pretty dangerous bullpen.

Does this mean the Royals are going to trade Soria, move him to the rotation or just have a nasty back end of the bullpen? I would feel more confident with Soria closing than Broxton. Overall, not a bad move for the royals. Low risk, high reward.

John Heyman projects that he was brought in as a set up man so Soria should stick as closer if that rings true. But maybe now is the time KC decides to trade Soria? Yanks supposedly had Montero on the table for Soria last trading deadline, maybe they revisit?

Yeah, that ruined my day. Big Bobby V fan but can't root for him in Boston.

It'll be interesting to see how he works out. He's a bit of a firecracker, does things by the beat of his own drum and isn't afraid of confrontation with players or superiors. Given all the melodrama in Boston, a new GM, and this could be a recipe for disaster. Or it could be ingenious.

Rockies close to signing Ramon Hernandez to a 2 year deal and then trade Chris Iannetta to Anaheim for Tyler Chatwood.

I like the idea of signing Hernandez and trading Iannetta in the right deal but not sure I am happy with Chatwood being the ideal return. I don't know Chatwood but looking him up it seems like he has pretty bad control issues, 1:1 K/BB ratio, and I don't think the Rockies needed to give up Iannetta for that type of return as it seems like they have plenty of those guys already, like Esmil Rogers for instance. I'd personally preferred to have just kept him.

That all said, I will be rooting for Chatwood. If he can materialize into his projected mid rotation role I won't be able to complain.

Heath Bell just signed a 3 year deal with Marlins. I'm sure Ryan Madson is happy about it because he is now going to be overpaid by someone.
