Heyman now saying the Kemp/LA deal is agreed upon and just awaiting a physical.

Not that it helped me any in fantasy this season, but Jennings displayed a ton of potential for sure.

LA signed Mark Ellis to a 2 year $9 million deal while AZ resigned Aaron Hill to a 2 year $10 million deal. At least Hill can show some power on the occasional year. Ellis fills a hole but he didn't impress me much during his stay in Denver. Not that he's bad, but he's not good either.

Reports are that if the Marlins sign Reyes then Hanley would move to CF.

Yeah, and Hanley R. isn't too happy with the idea.

Also, reported offer for Reyes is 6 years, $90 million. Not a must sign before testing out the market type offer like Miami seemed to be making it out to be.

To me moving Hanley to 3b would seem a more logical fit, or do they not want to upset Bonafacio since he's their current 3b.

Maybe they think Hanley has the range for it? I'd have expected a shift to 3B too.

yeah the marlins are acting like they are pursing players but the reality is they are just trying to get their fan base excited to sell more tickets next year. they made idiotic offers to pujols, buerhle and now jose reyes. they completely lowballed all 3

Verlander is the unanimous winner for the AL CY Young.

The Marlins offers to Reyes and Pujols do seem a bit low. One thing I heard though, about Reyes at least, is that he wants to play in much warmer weather to minimize pulling his hamstrings. Also he apparently wants to become a rap star and Miami supposedly has a big rap scene going on.

I'm on board with all the individual awards that have been given out so far for the 2011 season.

I'm not sure how having 10 teams in the playoffs is going to work, but I'm not too thrilled about the idea of more postseason baseball.

Quote:
MILWAUKEE -- Baseball owners have unanimously approved the sale of the Houston Astros from Drayton McLane to Jim Crane. The Astros will move from the NL Central to the AL West beginning in the 2013 season, giving each league 15 teams.

As part of the agreement to switch leagues, the sale price was cut from $680 million to $615 million, a person at Thursday's meeting told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because details weren't announced,

Major League Baseball will make up part of the $65 million difference, paying McLane $35 million over three years, the person said.

Commissioner Bud Selig said owners also approved two additional wild-card teams for the postseason, meaning 10 of the 30 teams make the playoffs. Selig said the specifics are being worked out. The players' association favors the move.

Also, am I misreading this or are divisions really being removed from the game?
Quote:
Selig calls this "a historic day" in baseball history - move astros, leagues of 15 and 15, divisions gone. 2 more wildcards

Money is the sole reason the extra spots are being added to the playoffs. More money also more for the owners who get money from revenue sharing.

As far the Astros moving to the AL, from what I rememeber reading they are still having three divisions in each league. However, there will be an increase in the number of inter league games being played now. Games will be scattered throughout the season instead of a few series each in May and June.

The extra playoff series is going to be a one game series, I actually think that could be exciting.

Me, I am not sure I am on board with inter-league play becoming a regular thing. One, I hope every NL team can still play every other NL team at least once a season. Two, more importantly, I hope division play doesn't get cut down.

That's even worse. Imagine if the new Wild Card rule had been in place at the close of last season. It would've sucked all of the excitement right out of the awesome Cards/Braves and Sox/Rays races that closed out the year.

Once Lincecum suffers his first injury (and it'll happen before he turns 30), you're going to see a career arc akin to Hideo Nomo. I believe Kershaw (and even Cain) will end up with longer, more productive careers, at least as far as wins and Ks go. Kershaw may not get two Cy Youngs, but he'll probably end up with one before it's all said and done. I think if Kershaw doesn't pass Lincecum this year, it'll be next season at the very latest.

ahem.

Seems like it should have been the Brewers who moved (back) to the AL.

I'm okay with the ten team playoff alignment as long as the wild cards are limited to a single game. Then you could put KC in the AL West. I'm not even sure if there is going to be divisions or not. I've heard it proposed both ways. I kind of like having divisions as it keeps at least a couple of west coast teams in it most of the time.

Wow. I absolutely hate the idea of a 10 team playoff. A 1 game series in baseball is a rigoddamndiculous thought. Too much luck involved to make it worthwhile.

I don't have a problem with it. Most years, the wild card races are the most exciting in the game and adding another team to each league would make the end of the season that much more interesting. And since you're talking about the #4 & 5 seeds in each league, I don't think a single elimination penalty is unreasonable. Just 20 years ago only four teams were getting in. Now they're giving 10 a shot. There should be a penalty for being a wild card and right now, it is very minimal.

Sounds like the DH in both leagues might also come along with the everyday inter-league play? I really hope not, as I am big fan of NL style play, but I get the sense I am in the minority.

If they decide to add the DH to the NL then I wouldn't be surprised if they add another roster spot. The Union would definitely go for that since it means more jobs. Obviously, this is nothing more tham just a random thought by me.

^ You better hope they add the DH in the NL so the Phils can keep Thome off the field!...kidding aside, I hate all the MLB changes in the works...was just getting used to the changes made over the past decade...geesh.

I believe an extra wild card game may just water down the post season. The season is long enough to determine who should play post season. Call me traditional.

I'm probably more annoyed with more inter-league play. I prefer NL play but I'm fine with the DH for the AL, just keep it in that league. The AL teams are set up for the DH and NL has their pinch hitters and runners. Isn't this gonna force the NL to carry a DH with more inter-league play? I think it will change some of their team dynamics anyway.

This trivia question was in today's Philadelphia Daily News. There are 11 players with exactly 4 letters in his last name to have hit 40+ home runs in a season? I knew 9 and had to ask my dad for help for the other 2. How many can you guess?
