Jeezus, this is an insane recording. I haven't listened to it in a long time and it's even better than I remember. What a band. Miles is high.

Sick record. A friend of mine's dad was at couple of the nights this was being recorded at(at The Cellar Door in DC which has been gone for a while now) and recorded some of it on a reel-to-reel recorder which sadly no longer exists(the recording he made).

They put out a box set of all the recordings they did at the Cellar Door in 1970. It must have been a bug out to have seen that band in action.

I must say, I dig the late 60's and early 70's Miles a ton. The rest is cool, but not so much down my alley. I'd like to hear this.

Need to hear this album, and I'll admit I've never heard Bitch's Brew before. Going to the top of my to-hear list!

And dig the album's back cover:

Is pete cosey on Live Evil?

his guitar work on Agharta / Pangaea is just mind-blowing. Never could understand why he hasn't gotten more praise.

The back cover of Live Evil would look mint painted on a denim jacket.

Pete Cosey is not on Live Evil. I'm pretty sure John McLaughlin is the only guitarist.

Listening to Miles' live album Dark Magus recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1974. If you want some incredible freak out guitar playing, check this one out.

I have Bitches Brew and really love it. I need to get some more.

What year did Live Evil come out? I think I should start with the 60's/early 70's Miles as well.

Live Evil came out in late 1970. A good one to check out is the album called A Tribute To Jack Johnson. It's Miles at his most rock with a smaller group than on most of his electric albums. John McLaughlin's guitar playing is incredible and Sonny Sharrock turns up on side 2 with some outrageous echoplex soloing.

The first track on Jack Johnson may be my favorite jazz song. Amazing guitar from McLaughlin, heavy grooves, absolutely incredible. Segues neatly into Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Inner Mounting Flame".

Just ordered this one on vinyl. Live Evil and Tribute to Jack Johnson are way better than Bitches Brew to my ears. They're much less scatter-brained and contain heavier grooves with the added cohesiveness. On The Corner is not too bad either, but I'm not familiar at all with Miles' discography after that. Definitely some of the most psychedelic music ever made!

Yeah, Live Evil is a killer...Dark Magus is worth getting too. The dark horse for me is Big Fun. Same lineup - John McLaughlin on guitar - but splits the difference between the spaciness of In a Silent Way/Jack Johnson and some of the more hepped up stuff here. Also gotta mention On the Corner too...
