What is the policy?

Let me reiterate.

You are abusing what little authority you have.

I understand that the management here doesn't want another stonerrock.com, but you must understand that most of the users on this board are here as a result of that community's demise. There will be arguments and flame wars from time to time.

Go ahead and lock the thread like you said you would, but leave my fucking posts alone.

Are referring to the three days worth of posts that were lost when the board crashed?

I think that when someone starts a thread and you don't know what the hell they're talking about, they should not be permitted to clarify.

*edit* I really didn't need to have an opinion on this.

so they locked a thread and/or edited your posts because they didn't like the direction the conversation had taken?

well that's not cool.

Werd.

The thought of the moderators touching my material in their ham-handed approach horrifies my larger-picture artistic sensibilities. I want some sort of guarantee or you'll be subject to the Sliterbang marketplace leaders, the MadJohnShaft material must be allowed to survive on its own merit, whether Arzgarth and Godshifter are confused by it or not, I insist.

I have to apologize if that offended anyone. The reason i'd deleted the post, was because of basically the idea presented that "hey, this happened at the other place, therefore it's guaranteed to need to happen at this one". Maybe I overstepped things a bit, I dunno--and again, I have to apologize if it was wrong. But SR.com's forums suffered from a lack of moderating, and I don't want to see these ones suffer the exact same fate. Needless to say, I think that i'm out as moderator.....it's clear that people want the rules from the old SR.com boards, and truth be told, I think that Danno just had it, for a myriad of reasons. I realized coming in here that it would be difficult to impart some sort of discipline....but I was asked to be moderator, so I accepted--perhaps slightly reluctantly, but I wasn't totally sure what that entailed, but some people liked the hardline approach (ie: no Justin...to which he still has not yet appeared on this board), and other people are on the fence as to whether they'd like to see the Obelisk forums degenerate into the same way that the SR.com ones did.

About how SR.com went down--and not trying to pin this just on the forums--I get the idea that there's a bitter taste left in Dan's mouth about the time that he put in at Stoner Rock.com versus what he got out of it in the end.....I mean, he could have started up a new messageboard, but ultimately, I get the impression that he just wondered what the point was. Now perhaps I know.

Well, I guess I missed it, but moderation will result in butthurt feelings. But its for the best. It is a private board that is hooked to a music enthusiest related blog. It's not a replacement for sr.com.

These guys seem pretty levelheaded and really doubt anything egregious really occurred. If you miss drama and insults, slum it over at that other place.

Thanks for the defense, guys. The only post that I deleted was the one that turned into this thread....and at that, Chlor had to post it again after I deleted the thread, once, after I deleted the post that basically turned into this thread topic in the Creepy Stalker thread. I thought it would allow some cooling off time, but apparently not....I didn't expect a new thread to be created, in turn, pointing out the user's own wrongdoing. It comes across with little class.

And as for my credentials--JJ asked me, because he respects my opinion. To say that i've overstepped what "little authority I have" is actually like shitting on JJ, too, like he has no faith in who he chooses to appoint to help out at his board. I'll make some mistakes. That's to be expected. Bear with me here, as this is the first week i've ever moderated any place in the whole + decade long time that i've been using the internet.

I do have to say this--Dan didn't owe you guys anything, just as I think that JJ doesn't owe you the right to post exactly whatever you want on here, either. And this whole thread is unfair to him, since it almost prompts a response from him, yet he's not here to be the bad guy. He's not here to be the asshole. We're here to be those guys that take one for the team. Sure we may not be right, but sometimes you have to take some good with the bad. I'm on your side. If you feel someone is giving you an unfair shake, i'll be here to help.

Maybe i'm just reading that wrong, but that sounds alot like entitlement. That the people that created this messageboard should just be happy that you decided to grace us with your time. Or am I missing something here?

Perhaps i'm in the minority, but i've had pretty good discipline just based on the fact that I post at a variety of forums; some of which don't even allow swearing--like sports forums where you're angry in the heat of the moment and bicker as to which player was the cause. Or on which music forum in which someone thinks band ____ sucks and really is out to let people there know why. I've got reprimanded at places like that, so I like to think that I know a thing or two about civil discourse. And you know what? Those moderators, those people were right. All I ask is that if I ask you to tone it down, that you tone it down.....like in the Creepy Stalker thread. It was a polite request....I didn't point anyone out in particular, but it's ironic that chlor--the guy that was the most barbed in the thread--assumed that I was talking to him. I didn't particularly like Horns' "I raped her" pic, either, but we're still feeling out the rules and regulations and what's going too far. If you were that sure, perhaps you knew, deep down, that you went outside the lines of civil discourse. If you felt that Horns was carrying over some long time feud in the hopes of trolling you, well, let me know that, too. I strongly dislike past feuds being brought into topics, because i've seen how it goes down at various places, and after awhile, one doesn't know what the actual problem is/ was.

SR.com's forums, in their last year, were a dying proposition. During the heyday of the forum activity during the previous decade, I got the impression that a large portion of people were there simply to agitate. I've never been a stranger to agitating people on other forums in the past, but I have to say.....some of the people during that time took it to an all time new high in lows--like an artform on trolling. Stoner Rock and Blabbermouth had the scene cornered on that. I was pretty excited--still am, actually--about these forums, since it's in a way, a new start for the dying days of SR.com.
