Wings are definitely carrying the play in the 2nd, up 2-0 now...shots are 18-4 in the period. Still, it takes 60 minutes. *crosses fingers*

Wow, the Wings dodged a bullet. Got scored on at the last moment; but technically, the clock ran out between the time it bounced off Howard's shoulder and when it hit the goal line. Crazy. Outshot them 22-4 in that period, but with one period left...it's far from over.

League totally tries to forget about. I'm glad everyone is there to support them but how long til th novelty wears off?

I've felt sorry for Atlanta right since they lost the team, but i'm sure that people can blame Bettman in every case--he gave a team back to a city that had already lost a franchise (Flames), and I just flat out think that he's never actually thought out demographics above the almighty buck. I mean, he's handed out US franchises like nothing, but if you also read between the lines and have noticed, he's never been fond of giving any Canadian team a hockey team, let alone one that he's in all likelihood considered to already have been a failed city, failed franchise here in Winnipeg. It's not like he's ever believed, "man, I always knew that Winnipeg would get a team back", he did virtually nothing to save the team back in '96, he was all too happy to move the team to Phoenix, whereas he's fought tooth and nail for the last several years to save a failing franchise in Phoenix. With us in '96, it was "don't let your ass hit the door on the way out". If you think Atlanta feels bad for being forgotten; at least Atlanta's the dirt.....we've been 6 feet under for 15 years and then all of a sudden, we're somehow viable to him.

Bettman's problem is that he's tried to sell the NHL in markets that have no business owning a franchise, and the talent pool has got pretty diluted as well. I'm not really sure if you're going to see a true dynasty like the 80's Edmonton Oilers, or the 80's Islanders anymore, though there are some very good teams.

As for the honeymoon period here, no doubt that alot of the casual people will lose interest.....even if the team is winning. But the thing is, there is a real genuine support for this team, because we draw fans from Saskatchewan, Western Ontario (people that are too far to go to a Leafs game), and some people from the US in Minnesota and North Dakota. That's important to point out, in that although our city is still small by big city standards (I think it's between 675,000 and 700,000), it's more a regional team now, whereas it was predominently just a Winnipeg thing before. Our defence needs alot of work right now, as does our goaltending. It's going to be an uphill battle this year probably to be .500, but we've got a young team.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that "the jets" are back. I just take issue with how the media has christened it as a "new" franchise. Is the 06/07 SE Division banner hanging in the arena?

As far as market bases, I have no clue. You'd think geographically it would matter but I can't recall the article (I even tried googling it) that I had read but it had listed the cities the NHL is considering for expansion.. are mind boggling.

And tonight, it was shutting out Vancouver 2-0, outshooting them 22-4 in the 2nd period. To be fair to Vancouver, it was their 3rd game in 3 nights.

But hate the Wings; I prefer it. ;)

Being a Colorado fan, I don't think you're going to have any reason to change your mind this season. Have fun 'rebuilding' all the way to missing the playoffs. /ouch!

Yah the Wings were definitely the better team tonight, Canucks can't seem to put a whole 60 together. Oh well, only 4 games in.

^Exactly. I'm just having a little fun, but as long as you make the playoffs, nothing in the regular season matters.

He was scratched today. And I like the new kid too. We've got some fire power but no special teams, partly because we're "rebuilding". Matt Duchene is still the man. Another part of our problem is leadership with no captain.

Happy I get to be back in CO to get my hopes up of an Avalanche post season. I think we can do it....but I know better.

What's up with Crutch's Avalanche going 4-1 to start the season? Early fluke, or will I be eating my words? Haha, nice start man. I won't remind you who the loss was to.

What arena are the Jets playing in? It wasn't built new for them, is it the old Jets rink? I saw that guy who got cut on the ice, and they had to stop the game so he could go from the bench down the tunnel to the locker room, so I'm guessing it's not a new building.

5-1 after tonight in overtime. But against some of weak teams. Except Boston. I think we just suck at home. Or maybe just when I go to the game...

I can't say much...so far, we're 4-0...but it's against Colorado, Ottawa, Vancouver and Phoenix. It's a long season. Still; nice start, and you never know when a young team might gel and surprise everyone. It makes the whole season fun to watch.

Colorado had a similar start last season no? Seems like they are pretty stacked offensively but might be lacking on the back end

The Flyers are really playing at a high level right now. The Van Riemsdyk-Giroux-Jagr line looks unstoppable.

Vokoun is a huge reason why they playing so good right now. He just might be the guy who gets them over the top.
