Of course I wouldn't. But it isn't, so I do.

That is one mighty silly comparison there, compadre. Here - have a cookie.

Heh, true, but the way that I see it is despite the extremely poor way that Andy has handled this, that it's obviously a cry for help. And though i've never physically met anyone from this site, there's a certain connection that keeps me coming back here, and that's a respect out of having similar musical tastes and some things that I can talk about and agree on that the average person in my day to day life wouldn't give a shit about (fuzz pedals, heavy stuff, etc).

From the day that this forum was enacted, it's been handled in a way where you can feel like the hostilities from the SR.com forums generally haven't been transferred over. I've seen enough meltdowns to know when someone's serious and when someone's not serious, and in this case, Andy feels like he's devoted his entire life to something that has caused him to be broke. And in fairness, there's alot of lessons that you learn that you don't figure out until you've been on the road and have survived all the petty shit on a day to day basis that threatens to do your band in. I've seen it myself, and i've seen it in other bands.

There's alot of really crazy things that happen to touring bands, and although that doesn't explain why Andy struck out at his supporters, I think that there's definetely something between the hostile demise of Black Pyramid--one of the most well known in the genre as far as up and coming bands--and Dan's slightly bitter walking away from SR.com due to a lack of support, overall. That much I know. Judging by Black Pyramid's buzz and even looking at their LastFM statistics in terms of fan support, you'd be hard pressed to think that they were broke. He'd said that they'd failed MeteorCity and a whole bunch of people, and that's a bit concerning.....if that's where "successful" bands are these days, that's pretty crazy. Mind you, when you read about the Black Flag stories and their tours with St. Vitus, it was rough then, too. I'm not sure what the answer is.

The answer is clear. More meth. Or less... One of the two.

I don't want the man hurt or anything, but for the love of christ, the way this was handled, and has unfolded has really, REALLY left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't forgive him for anything, he's a relentless troll, has been since the old board died and he could finally stop playing Moderator/Reviewer. He let is real colors show in the passed couple days, mental illness or not.

Really, though, talking about this is more annoying than talking about 9/11. I've watched 5 seasons of Rescue Me in the passed two weeks, and I swear to fucking god, If I have to hear another thing about 9/11, I'm going to explode.

September 06, 2011, 01:04:51 PM is Andy Beresky's 9/11.

It's over, let the dude go and zen out, and play in his brook. If we keep fucking talking about him, if anything, we're hindering his progress. Shut the fuck up, lock this thread here, and on the other board, and let them sink into obscurity. It'll be better for everyone. Fuck.

Do you realize what day is coming up?

If you are going to explode at least record it and have someone post it on youtube.

Yeah, I know. I tried to go out to breakfast this morning, and both families on either side of me and my brother were talking about it, not to mention all 3928934 televisions were doing something about 9/11. fuck it. This is the new Christmas. Bah musbug.

I agree. I would just like to say... Fuck 9/11 and fuck everyone who uses it to show just how "patriotic" they want others to believe they are.

I have to agree. The 9/11 media overload/sentiment is a bit of a beating.

My two cents. I haven't listened to much BP aside from a track that is on an ATiH comp. I have however enjoyed reading Dingers responses and recommendations in music focused threads. I would usually always check out all the bands/albums he suggested. Whatever has happened, slowing down on the drugs is always a start. I know people do develop a sense of duty to certain projects and activities, but you should never let those rule your life or let them get to the point where you feel you can't simply set off and do something else. Community is incredibly important, but on the most basic levels you still got to look out for youself. I wish him the best in his recovery/new path.

There's only a small number of rock bands these days, outside of legacy acts (Stones, Kiss, etc) making a living playing music alone. And I seriously doubt any beard rock bands outside of Mastodon, HoF and Melvins are making real money on the road. No one's making money off their records. That's just the facts. Unless you're in a major symphony, an academic, one of the 20 LA studio cats who get regular work, or established yourself at least 25 years ago, music is a hobby. It's not your life, it's not your career, it's your bowling league. And bands are just really loud bowling teams.

Oh and don't kid yourselves: This thread + the stonerrocklives thread combine to form a 9.5/10. This is stoner rock classic.

Does anyone know Dinger well enough to know if he's bipolar? If so, he's clearly in a manic phase and needs help. Otherwise this is melodrama + trolling. Did the breakup of ATP get this much attention? 60 Watt? Hydrozeen? KYUSS? Because regardless this is a lot of hubbub for a band with one full length.

Thread picking up steam!

- If "kill yourself, dipshit" stuff offends you, you should look about the internet more, get some seasoning. The new Relapse board is fucking vicious and makes this place seem G-rated, as an example.
--Methamphetamine-induced psychosis mimics other mental/emotional disorders, as does sleep deprivation which is a side effect of....meth. I'm not saying dude is a tweaker, simply because I haven't seen him hit the glass personally, but his behavior is right inline with a meth abuser. Also, he reposted that Doomantia interview at 5:49 AM today. ;)
--Is Kelprunk Jay-O-Doom?
--Dinger wasn't the only guy that baited Dubd Croi from alias accounts, but he was certainly one of them.

Just because the morons at Relapse are morons doesn't mean we get a free pass for acting like morons here. This isn't an anonymous message board, a great deal of us actually know each other. I rarely go more than a week without seeing someone I met on the old site. I probably know more people who met their spouses on stonerrock dot com than match or Okcupid.

And the manic phase of bipolar disorder is often mistaken for drug abuse. Probably because it often is coupled with drug abuse. When Charlie Sheen had his recent manic meltdown, a lot of people thought he was coke. He wasn't using, but he wasn't taking his actual prescribed meds either.

I have a half-assed theory that social networks can actually amplify the manic phase. I know of one guy who had a complete meltdown because of Twitter. I mean he was actually committed to the psyche ward of UCLA medical after getting caught in a similar feedback loop.

Anyway, my point being, if dinger is actually bipolar -- and there are a few people on here that might actually know, band mates and such -- then it might do some good to call his girlfriend or something. I think Andy's a good guy and I liked his band. Whether he wants to quit music is his business, but if the strange direction of his posts lately has been indicative of a greater problem, somebody should get off their ass and make some phone calls.

Otherwise, we've probably all been trolled, but if so it was well played and a fun ride, so I ain't mad bout that.

i know for a fact matt pike works when not touring. i don't think the melvins make much either, but they are probably making a living doing it. i doubt they are very wealthy

I was more referring to their guarantees, which I'd guess are pretty good for all three bands when they headline, since they fill pretty big rooms (small theaters and such). But of the three, I'd bet Mastodon are the only ones making enough to support themselves full-time.

For what it's worth, I usually see HOF on multi-band bills.......the type that are big enough to fill soft seat theatres and whatnot, but even sometimes they aren't big enough to headline those sorts of things (they would need help here, but in some markets not). I'm thinking back to the Motorhead show here last year.....HOF weren't on that, but Clutch were (a band that probably sell as much as HOF and/ or draw similar amounts of audiences to shows in the stoner rock genre), but the interesting thing is that I remember when Tim Sult was doing an interview along with Neil Fallon, around the 1993/ 1994 range, and he said "please buy more records so that I can move out of my mom's basement" or something to that effect. I remember even when Clutch played here on the "Pure Rock Fury" tour (with the huge monetary support that comes with Atlantic) with Biohazard (also on Atlantic), there was maybe 125-150 people at the show, tops, in a small, crammed club. The Melvins, even with big videos and Atlantic's support, I think, never sold more than 80-90 thousand records, which is a failure by major label standards.
