That's a goddamn shame. He looks like a chick. It doesn't surprise me though...you could definitely expect them to ruin it by picking the wrong actor. They should have cast this guy:

the closer it gets to release, the more I dont want to see it

Im with the camp that didnt want to ever see the original remade..Im sure all the tricks will be pulled out for this one; slow motion fight scenes, excessive cgi, crap metalfest soundtrack

Thats the same guy thats playing Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones I think. Just looking at the casting now is that THE Bob Sapp? What the hell?

And the director has some bizzare credits he did the newer Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th and he directed a Cher and George Michaels video???

This can't be good. Conan doesn't wear paperboy hats, drink lattes or rock sandals..with socks no less! (the fucking Lisa Bonet part is cool though).

What is the fascination with bodybuilders?

Conan would not have looked like Arnold or any body builder. Period. Anyone who thinks that has zero clue about Conan and is only going from the fact that Arnold was in the 80s movies.

That wasn't really Conan, not Robert E. Howard's Conan. No way on earth a bodybuilder could move like REH's Conan could (fast, 'like a panther'), or survive the type of life Conan lead. He was a thief, not many muscle bound thieves. Conan would look more like an MMA fighter than a bodybuilder, if not slimmer. He was strong, but he wasn't waddling around unable to wipe his own ass.

As for sandals?
"Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet." — Robert E. Howard, The Phoenix on the Sword, 1932.

So, yeah, that's wrong, too.

Edit:
And technically, this is not a remake, but another adaptation of the same source material, much like True Grit, which was based upon the same novel but more true to it than the original. The 80s Conan movies changed a lot about Conan, he was born on a battlefield in the stories, and his parents were still alive when he left home to wander. He was never a child slave, either.

Is this a remake or something else?

I'd really love to see them do a movie actually based on the stories, like a full-length "Beyond the Black River." I like the first movie, but, lets be honest, it could have been much truer to the spirit of Howard, no?

I'm sure this won't be that film, butstill...

^ it does seem odd, fucking heathcliff hugstable's daughter, but maybe not.

She's got that Shannyn Sossamon indie-hop hot mess vibe going on. That kind off sexuality is like leaving a butterscotch candy on the windowsill in full summer heat.

Since they've announced the new Conan movie it's been a surprise to me to see how many people seem to think that the 80's movie is some unbeatable don't-bother-goin'-there-again shit. Don't get me wrong, it was cool and all and AHnold did a good job, but there's tons of way better Conan shit out there (probably 200 better stories in Savage Sword Of Conan alone - and the script for Conan the Destroyer might actually be the worst Conan story ever published) and He's not the definitive Conan by a long shot.

I'm not super hyped, my guess is that Hollywood's amazing ability to fuck up anything good is gonna win out, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if it turns out all right.

Well, this is the Director (Marcus Nispel)
Image

And the closest thing he's done to a warrior epic was Pathfinder with Karl Urban (Eomer from lotr).
Image

I saw it and I'll say this: there's more to a protagonist than dirtied up, assymetrically scarred grim glowering and terse dialogue.

I'm not expecting The Maltese Falcon, but I want a little more substance than eye candy to get rock chics wet.

They should get the band Conan to do the score for the movie.
