Just bump the thread and give everybody a week or so to recover from the holidays. The whole forum is a bit slow the last week or so. Seems like some of us actually leave the basement from time to time.

In no particular order, 25 of my faves from the 70's. I'd be curious to see other decades done, too. I stopped listening to a lot of rock music in the 90's and early 00's and would be curious to see what others were into.

Motorhead - Overkill
Deep Purple - In Rock
The Stooges - Funhouse
Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent
AC/DC - Let There Be Rock
The Dictators - Bloodbrothers
Ramones - Leave Home
Nazareth - Loud N Proud
MC5 - High Time
Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Aerosmith - Rocks
Alice Cooper - Killer
Grand Funk Railroad - Live Album
Frank Zappa - Bongo Fury
Montrose - Montrose
Mountain - Climbing
Radio Birdman - Radios Appear
Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny & Mutation
Robin Trower - Bridge Of Sighs
ZZ Top - Rio Grande Mud
UFO - Strangers In The Night
Thin Lizzy - Live & Dangerous
New York Dolls - New York Dolls
Judas Priest - Stained Class
The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette

Yeah, we should definitely do other decades, not that I'll have much to say about them. :)

I think I can come up with pretty good lists for the 80's, 90's & 00's, but I was gonna let this one go for awhile as not to take away from the 70's.

I can do 60's, 80's, 90's, and 00's if the subjects were broached. I'd be into it.

BTW - nice list Woodrow. You have no repeats, yet all quality, in terms of bands.

80's would be hard for me. But I'd be willing to try.

I could also easily do another 70's list.

Oh, heck. Bring on all decades. Even the 1880s! ;)

80s wouldn't be a problem. Everybody thinks hair metal, powerballads and the music that was played at the high school reunion in "Grosse Pointe Blank" but I could do two 25-lists easily.

Hell yeah! Get out that old acoustic guitar and violin and pass me the jug.

This is another one of those impossible lists to do. When I do these lists, I always stick to one album per band (otherwise mine would be over half Sabbath/Priest/Motorhead), and only include studio albums.

Black Sabbath-S/T
Judas Priest-Sad Wings of Destiny
Motorhead-Overkill
Buffalo-Volcanic Rock
Bang!-Mother/Bow to the King
Sir Lord Baltimore-Kingdom Come
AC/DC-High Voltage
RUSH-Hemphispheres
Night Sun-Mournin'
Flower Travellin' Band-Satori
UFO-Phenomenon
Deep Purple-Machine Head
Dust-S/T
Jerusalem-S/T
Van Halen-I
Blues Creation-Demon and Eleven Children
Thin Lizzy-Jailbreak
Led Zepplin-Houses of the Holy
Aerosmith-Get Your Wings
Scorpions-Virgin Killer
Cactus-S/T
Budgie-S/T
Trapese-Medusa
Rainbow-Rising
Iron Claw-Dismorphobia

these aren't in any particular order after the first few and so many great albums have been left off it's almost criminal.

I don't know. I think if you're going for the "best" albums, then multiple selections are going to be inevitable with top tier bands. Trying to keep it to one (or excluding live stuff), makes things less legit, imo. But it ain't my thread or my deal. So just my .2 cents.

Haha. See for me, I could do 2 - 3 70's lists, but it will take time for me to do one 80's list. It could be that I never listen to anything from the 80's anymore aswell.

Yeah, I could do another 70s-list too, no problem. But while I love the era I was a bit late when I got into music in 77. But in the 80s and early 90s I was in full swing. 2 to 3 shows a week, buying tons of obscure stuff. Lots of it didn't age well but there are still lots of good albums.

This is true, though more so for me in the 90's as I was going nuts in the early 90's. The thing with my 80's list is, it could go from Motley Crue to Bad Brains to The Cult to Public Enemy. I was all over the map then.

Yes, doing a Heavy-rock-only-80s-list will be a challenge because I was in so much different shit by then. For example, would the Replacements or Ministry count?

Good question. However, I suppose it's ones interpretation of what they consider heavy.

Dude the 80's was full of NWOBHM and Riot and Motorhead and Maiden and leftover guitar heroes, thrash, etc... some good stuff to choose from.

Very true. But what one person likes, may not be the same as what another does.

Of course, but I'd say that the 80's, perhaps more than any other era, is less open to interpretation when it comes to "hard rock"....even if we're talking about Siouxie & the Banshees or the DK.

It's all about opinion anyway-- who cares if someone puts The Police, it'll just get tallied out, most likely.

I don't see The Replacements or The Police as fitting into Hard/Heavy; but I agree there are bands that live near the border.

Just when you thought you knew the critical majority of the obscure 70s protoheavy, think again. Spend 8-9 min. of your life checking this vid, and I guarantee you'll get turned on to 2-3 awesome acts.

80's hard n heavy would be very easy for me to do since I'm very into metal, punk, hardcore, etc.

60's hard n heavy would be cool, too. I bet everyone could come up with some cool, obscure gems outside of the usual Hendrix, Zep, Cream, Blue Cheer, etc.
