As previously announced, Southern Lord Recordings will release a deluxe reissue of one the most essential albums of modern times – Dopesmoker from stoner metal icons, SLEEP. This reissue is entirely remastered from the original smoke-encrusted Ampex reels, and features an unreleased live recording of one their greatest live performances — “Holy Mountain” from San Francisco’s I-Beam in 1994 — as well as a brand new artwork by long time SLEEP artist Arik Roper, who crafted something truly special and consciousness-expanding for the album’s rebirth.

Dopesmoker stands as one of the towering achievements in recent metal history: a mesmerizing, intoxicating, and incredibly complex composition that remains unrivaled in the evolution of stoner metal.

In conjunction with its release, SLEEP will be headlining the 2012 edition of the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands before departing on a 24-city tour of Europe and the UK commencing May 3 in Wroclaw, Poland.

Nope. At least last I heard.

I felt 10 years old when I saw that album art--all my childhood dreams come true--it's like Star Wars and Black Sabbath just had sex in my brain.

This is the part where I wish I had enough disposable income to buy every last record I want to own on a whim.

Just saw a tour patch or poster or something, and it says Cisneros, Pike, Roeder.
Also, the Southern Lord band page gives the lowdown on the Re-Mastering job. Apparently it was done by Brad Boatright, guitarist from From Ashes. Who also did Off! and Noothgrush.

Really looking forward to this release. It will be great to hear this masterpiece as originally intended.
And no, Hakius isn't playing, it's Jason Roeder of Neurosis-fame, as mentioned above.

Question: have they changed only the artwork for this re-release? Or how else does it vary from the Dopesmoker album of 2003? Wasn't that the entire piece?

From what I can gather, yes, 63 minutes is the full version. But this is a new mix. Different mix? I for one have no problem with Billy's original mix, and may end up spinning Dopesmoker 1.0 more depending on how this sounds, as it's the only place one can hear Sonic Titan. Miond you I don't have any live recordings of Holy Mountain, so it's a nice new addition. Yeah, 2.0 isn't exactly an entirely new recording, but maybe it will sound better/louder/crisper, again nothing against Billy, I actually like the idea of it being a dirty little hour, maybe hearing some guitar/bass separation will sound nice as well. I'm buying it because I love the song, respect the band, and want to hear it any way anyone perceives. New liner notes by the band? Yeah, I know, i've pre-ordered at amazon already.

So, which distro has the best price on the dbl vinyl? Interpunk flaked on getting these in stock, Southern Lord's s&h charges are ridiculous, and the Belands haven't announced whether or not they'll be stocking the LPs yet.

I just want good ol' black vinyl, and I want it cheap.
