Thanks.
The last few were all emulating Art Deco-style posters. I'm a HUGE fan of that style. When Green Flash approached me about doing a sign I sent them what I wanted to do. After some back and forth they went my way, luckily. When Deschutes approached me I told them what I wanted to do and sent them some sketches and they said "go". I've been fortunate, I know.
I've been a freelance illustrator for over twenty years so I know how things normally go. But I've tried to use what leverage I have to do what I want. These are one-offs, not a national campaign, so that gives me a lot of leeway.

Anchor Brewing wants me to do a sign and they initially asked me to replicate one of their logos. I told them there's no point in having me paint something if they don't want it to look painted. I explained what I had done for those previous two and the rep was immediately onboard. We'll see, but it seems like he'll let me do what I want to do.

With some of the other stuff it might be a mixture of my rock and roll style, my illustration style or a shortcut to getting something done.

I love posters, but I'm not as bold a designer as I wish I was. I stay safely within a classic style. Wish I was crazy sometimes, but I ain't.

Awesome stuff, I'm currently house sitting a place that is full of art deco posters and coffee table books like the style you are emulating, love looking at them but doubt I could ever pull of what they're doing.

Here is a picture I entered in an art contest; You are supposed to re-imagine a fairy tale. I made the 3 Little Pigs doing Shakesphere. As far as I know, it didn't get in the top 3. Oh well, what can you do.....

I realize this pic is not rock and roll like the other pictures in this thread. But fuck it...I'm posting this shit anyways...I work too damn long on this thing anyways.

By the way, I remember this thread from the old Stonerrock forums. I really dig a lot of the stuff here.

^Awesome^

Like the choice of colours on that.

For my job I make a lot of graphics for video but I also have to do lots of print adverts for trade magazines, we get them so often that I've tried to always do a new design rather than repeating myself. That's meant that I have to play around quite a lot with the formats to keep it interesting, I think that's helped me a lot to work with different mediums, so when I do my own projects I get bored of using the same idea too much and try to experiment. I somehow ended up working a graphics department but I just had to learn as I went along, thats ended up extending out to all sorts of jobs now, some where I play out the videos at concerts, some where I make them, and some where I'm cutting them into a show. I think I'm like good at doing a mix of things which works out great but not great at any one of them individually haha

Some things from work:

James: cool illustration, surprised there aren't more zombie posters...

Mindzap: It's good to be versitale in graphic design and change the styles up, even better if you do it across different platforms and mediums. The same can't be said for illustration, seems like a set style sells in that arena but you can also play your style out and be out of style if you don't evolve somewhat. I do some design at work as well and it definitely helps my rock-art, even if just learning programs.

thanks skillet, me too, given that the undead provide so much great imagery.

so my venture into star wars territory is as follows, i have a buddy that wants to make monochromatic prints of the major characters, i did these two as a proof of concept, drew them out on paper, vader is actually a drawing of a photo i took of my vader helmet (lots of reference photos and tracing/redrawing specially for chewie to get it as realistic as possible) scanned, fucked around with the vector stuff etc and boom. probably the long way round but i didnt wanna just convert a photo.

Posted this in the Beer thread too, but thought it'd work here as well.
Just finished this hand-painted sign for Deschutes. Just in time for the Great American Beer Festival.

How can I get one of those, homefry? Want. Don't think I'll make it to that Oceanside show, although Ride the Sun, Whores and St Paddy's day is a tasty combo.

I'd contact Trent, I don't have any shirts yet, hope to get a couple from them after they print em. That St Patty's Day show sounds interesting....

Flyer for our 4/20 record release show. The illustration is from the LP label. I'll be posting the album cover art soon. Braino's most insane one yet.
