Emerging from his 3+ year-long coma.

Was never really a fan of the Deftones but this is good news and I am stoked for him and his family if he can pull out of this.

Wonderful news. Glad to hear he's making slow but steady progress.

I still dig Deftones to some degree, but not to the same degree that I did when I was growing up with them. They always seemed to be on a bit of a different path compared to their nu-metal brethren. I liked what I've heard from Diamond Eyes, and I still have to give props to anyone that plays with a Green Matamp (Chino, in this case). And I've always dug Chino's voice and thought he'd make a pretty unique crooner/lounge singer ala Sinatra or Tony Bennett. White Pony will always have a special place in my mind, too.

The Deftones don't mean much to me but I got a little warm glow when I heard/saw/read this news.

I don't listen to the Deftones anymore except when they come up on shuffle, but this is definitely good news.

Glad to hear it, but I can't imagine those three years have been kind to his or his family's bank account. I hope he's able to bounce back from this, I love the Deftones.

Over the years, I've often wondered about his progress and would go to his wikipedia page to see if there was any news of improvement. There never was. Now, there seems to be. That's great. Whether he ever plays another note on the bass guitar or not, if they guy can recover to live a semi-normal life, then that's terrific. I've always liked the Deftones, but this more about seeing a guy being able to live his life again and that's way more important than his band and/or playing career.

Great news.

I remember the accident when it happened but never realized that he continued in a state of a coma for almost 3 years. That's scary.

But glad to hear he's starting to show progress.

I kept checking on this for a while hoping there would be some improvement. Glad to hear at least something. Must be hell if you're aware of your surroundings but can barely move and can't do much more than grunt. Always liked the band, Chi seemed like a fun guy, hope he continues to make progress.

What a great story. Really dug the Deftones up through White Pony.

RIP :(. Don't really know what sort of progress he was making within the last year, if any, but at least he and those close to him can finally move on.

This is really sad news. Chi always seemed like such a righteous dude. He was a huge influence on me when I was learning to play the bass as a lass. Such a huge loss.
