Gardner stole 47 bases in 2010, 49 bases in 2011.

Really? Yankee fans act like he's never stole more than 15

Quote:
Showalter spotted 19-year-old outfielder Josh Hart walking down a hallway today and called him over to meet Frank Robinson.

Hart, the Orioles' supplemental pick in last year's draft, had just arrived at the complex to take part in the workout. Robinson, the Hall of Famer, was invited to speak with the players on the camp roster.

"He was coming down the hall and I was walking Frank out of the locker room," Showalter asked. "I go, 'Hold on a second, Frank. Josh, do you know who this is?'"

Showalter already knew the answer.

"He says, 'No,' and I said, 'OK, by this time tomorrow I want a page on Frank Robinson,'" Showalter said. "I said, 'You go home, you research it and you come back tomorrow and have it on my desk. Frank got a kick out of that.

"It's not their fault, it's not their fault."

Is Hart going to do it?

"You bet your ass," Showalter replied. "It better be there tomorrow. He knows."

I don't understand how this is allowed to happen.

So is Stephen Drew unsigned because he's tied to a draft pick or because he's asking for more than he deserves? Every media source is citing the draft pick compensation, but I think it goes beyond that.

And the first highlight of the upcoming season.

Hey Adam what's the deal with Tyler Colvin? The giants just got him on a minor league deal. I thought that he was a decent player?

He seems to be decent every other season and terrible on the others. He had a rough 2013.

He looks like an MLB player, but he's more of a AAAA player.
He's got a bit of pop, can steal a base or two, and won't kill you in the field (though he's still a bit shakey, at least he was in Chi)
As Adam said, he seems to have good "even" years, and bad "odd" years.
That short Right field corner in SF should help him out some.
If he keeps up the good year / bad year, he could be a decent platoon player.

The saga of Ervin Santana's free agency finally came to an end yesterday. The Braves signed him to a one year, $14.1m contract. I guess playing for the Braves rather than the Royals is a bonus in and of itself?

Speaking of the Braves....looks like Beachy is also gonna require his second Tommy John surgery. Just when they find someone to replace Medlan....

I'm still crunching numbers before I make my predictions (I'll be in Vegas next weekend for season O/U bets), but how in the world are all of you picking the Angels to win the AL West? Yeah, Pujols looks physically great right now, but he is no way an MVP type of player anymore. In order for this team to win the division, they're really going to need to have A) both Hamilton and Freese have career type of seasons, B) have that rotation hold up to the others in the division (rotation being Weaver (declining), Wilson, Santiago, Richards and Skaggs) and C) pray that the bullpen doesn't blow 60% of the games they made decisions in like they did last year.

Hard team to be optimistic about. O/U is 87.5. Can this team win 88 games, much less the AL West division?

Fun watching the Opening Day of 2014 in Australia at 3 AM right now. Kershaw is looking awesome/dominating (duh). It's kind of weird how the Dodger accommodated Greinke's request to stay at home in the USA. They have to be pretty confident in their chances in their division to pamper a player like that. It would be funny if they got screwed out of a playoff spot/seeding by a game when it's all said and done in September.

Scott Van Slyke eh? He should have 2 HR tonight apparently, if not for the weird wind configuration of the cricket stadium.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pujols and Hamilton have themselves nice seasons, it always helps to have a potential MVP on your team, and think their rotation has the chance to be solid. Texas rotation looks to have holes, I always under-estimate Oakland, Seattle wasn't a Robinson Cano from turning around, and Houston is, well, Houston. But don't take my predictions too seriously. I didn't put much thought into them, just went with what I was feeling/thinking at the time

Now that oaklands #1 starter is having TJ I don't see many teams that could be better. The rangers have 1 pitcher. The mariners are young and could suprise everyone. As bad as the AL west will be this year it wouldn't suprise me if 88 wins the division.

The angels have 3 of those guys hitting back to back to back. And they have a year under their belts on the same team. Continuity really means a lot in sports.

I might watch 10-15 AL games a year. Im just winging it.

Also, Demon Lung? weren't you the Mike Olt guy?
He has a really good chance of making the Cubs opening day roster, i think. had a pretty solid spring, so far. Second on the team in HR & RBI (which in spring means little, I know), and it appears he has gotten past his physical issues from last year, at least at the plate. not sure what his fielding ability is at this point.

If Olts vision issues are behind him then he will be a solid major leaguer.

I'd agree that the AL West is the worst division in the AL, but I don't see Anaheim passing Texas and Oakland, although I think both of those teams will take a step back themselves. Seattle might contend if everything falls into place with them, but you could say that about every team. I think Iwakuma is due for a bit of a regression. I wish they'd picked up a free agent starter (Santana mostly). They're putting a ton of pressure on Walker/Paxton, who are basically slotted at #3 & 4 right now.

I was really high on Atlanta before their 2 best starters went down.
