Off topic thread I've been enjoying probably all along my listening career at different times of my devotion to heavy music. Whether is was new wave, post punk 80s (Gary Numan, etc) somewhat harder edged techno/underground 90s (Aphex Twins, Carl Cox, Daft Punk, etc..), or later day (Air, Boards of Canada, Mogwai to a certain degree, etc) I'd always give synth/electronic music a listen if it had cool melody/hooks. I know the obelisk is not the first place for this, but figured there was fans of this type of stuff here. Any contemporary groups/artists going now I should know would be cool. (ie, Zombie)

Link is an example of what I'm talking about. Although this is pretty mellow, think instrumental drug music without guitars and live drums

I love electronic music. I had a thread on it going last year, I'll try to dig it up. Lots of good recs in there. You probably posted some of them.

But I'll use this new thread as a new excuse to post tracks I love.

Still sounds current and vital, almost twenty years on. I'm not quite sure what they're on about these days, but Autechre's first five or so albums might be the height of electronica for me:

^Very Ash Ra. I like.

Another mid-90's UKer... One of the first electronic albums I ever owned. Still holds up.

I may have mentioned it in the previous electronic music thread, but don't sleep on "Correlations" by Ashra (Not Ashra Tempel). Same dude, but totally different vibe. This is what I think Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew were listening to when starting up the 80's era King Crimson.

I love everything up to Tri Repetae, including those 2 eps. that were included on the version I bought. Amber is my favorite album by them. Amazing band, and while they still put out good music, none of it since has resonated as strongly although their last couple of albums have been solid.

^I had written off the newer stuff for years and there's still stuff on them I don't quite *get* but... there's still amazing tracks on them if you're willing to dig. I kinda think of them as a tracks rather than album group at this point. Haven't heard that most recent one yet...

New Boards of Canada is excellent, been my morning commute soundtrack lately. Might be their best since Music Has a Right to Children.

I go through phases..and been kind of "stuck" in that post punk/electronic/synth stuff for a bit.

Let's just say you can't do wrong by heading over to Belaten (label) and checking out the bandcamps in there. Tinged with post punk and that sometimes eerie apocalyptic/analog feel. Some crossing over into other genres..

Soundcloud is fantastic for finding this sort of thing, but on a more underground level. Just recently got wrapped up in Belaten/Invisible Guy mixtape..(look it up, varied and fucking awesome, but not limited to synth), where Ekelund settles in with unsettling noise/post-death industrial, Invisible Guy's input is the more electro stuff and makes for quite a mixtape). Been registered in there for some time now but more active the last year and a half and theres some real quality in there and easy to find new music by following people with similar artists likes.

That's a nice track, and a good example of stuff I've been digging for the past several years. But it would be cool to find this type of sound with a little more teeth/darker....and that maybe what Hungus is pointing towards. Sort of like Pinkish Black or Pop.1280, but subtract the rock element.

Not new but instrumental drug music without guitars-

and another one that tripped me out big time in the '90s even if it isn't 'drug music' proper-

Still sounds as good as the year it came out, 1994.
Definitely my fave Autechre CD. Incunabula is really good too.

Check out Robert Anthony's stuff, Sleep Museum material and After the Snow - Fracture album (fracture is fucking awesome) He really gets the Ian Curtis meets Bowie vocal show going on ATS. More of a slow wave than the SM material, which pays instant homage to Numan

I may upload ATS onto youtube if he gives me the greenlight to.
