No such luck. Wings are in. Canucks aren't, which is so damn funny.
Avs are in 1st in the division as of today. What an incredible turn-around they've had. Losing the Wings to the East still angers me, but Chicago - St Louis - Colorado could be a great future for this division.
The new playoff format confuses me, I'm so used to the conference seedings as opposed to the division seedings. Its either Hawks vs Blues or Avs. I think over a series the Hawks can beat either, despite having losing records to both during the regular season. Regardless, it is almost my favorite time of the year sports-wise.
PLAYOFFS!!!!

I guess you got half-hard, then? WINGS!

After the unbelievable amount of injuries, to the point of having 12 AHL players on the roster at one time, so much time missed by top players...Babcock deserves serious consideration for the Jack Adams award, although it's probably gonna go to the wife-beater in Colorado.

Next year, we finally get to dump millions of dollars in dead-weight contracts, and after the kids played so well this season (Nyquist has more goals than anyone in the league since January 20th, kid's gonna be a superstar, along with Tatar), we can use that money to hopefully get a top D-man and hopefully a sniper.

It looked like the playoff streak might end this year, but it's now 23 straight years.

It's hard to be a Devils-fan these days. Just two years ago we were in the finals, and now we've missed the playoffs for two seasons in a row.

Hah! Division champs for the Avalanche. We get to let St. Louis and Chicago sort themselves out.

Congrats.

Hawks get Toews & Kane back fully? healthy, play a St. Louis team that is injured and seems to have forgotten how to play hockey.
Good luck against Minnesota.

As violent as Anaheim and Colorado can get, last nights game was actually pretty clean. Probably because the game itself was a wash and it was Teemu's last regular season game, and probably Gigure's as well.

Teemu Selanne has got to be one of the classiest athletes ever with universal appeal. It was his night but he dragged (literally) Giggy out to take a final lap with him at the Honda Center.

Bruins in 6
Montreal in 7 (a toss-up really)
Penguins in 7 (I have faith that Columbus will give them a hard time, but won't close the deal)
Flyers in 5

Ducks in 4
Avalanche in 6
Kings in 6
Blackhawks in 7 (more like wishthinking on my end. Will be a good series.)

Tampa in 6
New York in 6

Avs in 5
Hawks in 6
Kings in 5

It's amazing. St. Louis goes from being a Cup favorite to a widely predicted first round exit.

I think it was a writer on Yahoo that summed up St Louis the best.
saying "they are the team Toronto should strive to be....at least they made the playoffs before they forgot how to play hockey"

I'm awful at these things:

Det in 7
Pit in 5
TB in 6
NY in 6

Ana in 5
Col in 6
Chi in 6
SJ in 6

Also, did anyone catch that Nashville did not re-up Barry Trotz? Only coach that franchise has ever had, right?

Whoa, what a win by Detroit! Never expected them to take Game 1...brilliant play/goal by the Magic Man, Pavel Datsyuk. Check the toe drag!

That was a fun game. Hopefully Detroit beats 'em.

Hope the Hawks can even the series today, and that there is better officiating, wouldn't want Coach Q to lose another 25k.

I do not understand that fine.

When Roy had his temper tantrum at the season opener, I knew he had to get fined for that bullshit. But unless I missed something, Q's outburst didn't even register to me as that out of whack. Pointing at the netting? Calling for a penalty? Is that really unsportsmanlike? How come Roy only got $10,000 and Quenneville loses a quarter of a 100 grand?

edit: I suck at math.

Dunno. I guess grabbing one's nuts is srs bsns to the NHL.

He'll have plenty of time in the fast approaching off season.
The Hawks should AT LEAST be 1-1 in this series, and easily be up 2-0 instead of down 0-2.
Now, they'll be without Seabrook for 3 games for his ill-advised hit on Backes in game 2.

I expect vastly different lines for game 3, and the Hawks to maybe try and play the style of game that has shown them so much success the last few years instead of trying to play St Louis's game.
Either way, i don't hold much hope for round 2, unless they repeat what they did against Detroit last year.

Also, how about McKinnon! tearing.it.up.

for your consideration:

one of these hits was deemed suspendable, one was not.
I see no difference. I'm not defending Seabrook, but the league needs to get their shit together when they determine these punishments, also perhaps the officials shouldn't hand out penalties after the fact.

How about him indeed. Putting him with Statsny and Landeskog was a smart move and it's gelling nicely.

Seymon Varlamov is on a streak too. Plus, Tyson Barrie is finally maturing into the dynamic defensemen we desperately need.

Watched their last game, and that line was nothing short of incredible. Has to be the best line in hockey right now. That tic-tac-toe goal was amazing.

McKinnon is one of those rare players who's faster with the puck than without it.

Worst game I've seen the hawks play in ages, and they win?
Absolutely awful from start to finish, crappy goal that Miller should've stopped is the deciding goal?

Regardless of the outcome, this series should show that Crawford is an upper echelon goalie.

Man, the Wings looked slow, disinterested. Boston played a great game and didn't give them any room, but I expected a little more desperation from the Wings.

I think those hits are quite different. Orpik and Toews were both skating, more or less, in the same general direction. They both had momentum moving towards those corner boards and Toews used his lateral mobility to cross over and check him. Toews was skating with his head down. Orpik hit him shoulder to shoulder. If Toews was struggling to keep control of the puck - well, he should have known better.

Seabrook came barreling into the end boards on a player that was stationary and targeted his head when said player was in a vulnerable position. BONEHEAD move by Seabrook. He deserves the supension for sheer stupidity. How in the world is his point of impact not going to be Backes' head? You can see from 10 yards out the difference in stature and Seabrook making no attempt to line up the body of the man he is hitting.

I also hope they finally ban Matt Cooke for life after yet another of his pathetic knee on knee hits the other night.

What a joke that this guy is still in the league.

As a Wings fan, that was fucking painful to watch. Not to discredit Boston, because they're a stellar team...but that lays at the feet of the Wings, who, as you say...looked like they didn't care until the final 5 minutes.

I wish I had gone to the dentist instead.

Datsyuk made that terrible attempt at a clearing pass, right up the middle of the ice in front of his own net, very fortunate it wasn't turned into a goal. I also saw several missed passes and players who weren't communicating with each other. And they only had 23 shots.
Probably the worst I've seen the Wings play ever, as a team.
