adam that backwoods bastard is a drainpour in my opinion. last night i drank jai alai. it was brewed like 2 weeks ago so it was ultra fresh. tastes like a citrus explosion in the hops. firestone walkers double jack is also pretty fucking top notch.

14 degrees here but still I can't let go of refreshing summer Ales.
A refreshingly tart and crisp hefeweizen brewed with local MA wildflower honey, orange peel and coriander, and fermented with the juice from over 1,000 blood oranges. It’s a cloudy, yet effervescent beer, with lingering banana and citrus notes balanced against a healthy wheat backbone and hoppy finish from Mt. Hood and Crystal hops.

Had a Mikkeller Spontankriek last night and, damn, it was really, really good. I have a few of their other spontaneous fruit beers and have heard they are all good too.

Brewing an all-herb, no hops medieval Gruit Ale.
Grains, sugars and yeast are Saison. In place of Hops will be Tansy, Watercress, Wormwood/Horehound (last 5 minutes) and then raw Rosemary, Honey and Peppercorn at flame out. Sliced Pear into fermenter as well.

The idea is to create a Tarot Ale - Ace of Cups.

'Smoke & Dagger' black Lager is the perfect blend of chocolate coffee Porter and Schwarzbier.

I had a few of these the other night. It's a wheat beer style dry-hopped with elderflowers. It was quite pleasant, although a little strange, at first but I wouldn't recommend more than one per session.

Interestingly, the brewery changed their name from Traditional Scottish Ales to Black Wolf to appear more marketable to the craft beer scene.

True, still doesn't stop accusations of the brewery jumping on a bandwagon. Their beer seems to have improved though along with the image change

Some good beers up in the house here. That Smoke And Daggers, drank it last year while camping. Love just about everything I've had from White Birch, they have some really nice small batch aged sours.

Heather ales bring back memories, we had one when I worked at the Amherst Brewery.

Drying out after New Year's, haven't had a beer since NYE. Usually I got a couple months, though if I feel good not drinking, maybe I'll do it for a couple of years again....

I'm going to NYC this week, so looking forward to trying some of those US beers, that I can only get in bottle/can, from the tap. They can also be pretty expensive, as much as I love this one, it still set me back £14.

Anything I should look out for? Good beers and bars etc?

I've recently been enjoying beers from Terrapin, Stone, Rogue, Ruhstaller and Sixpoint.

Ommegang is from NY State (Cooperstown) but not New York City. I only bother making that correction so that Mickey67 doesn't make any plans for a brewery visit while there. But I am a fan of Ommegang's as well. Not quite a favorite of mine, but I enjoy much of what they do.

My favorite NY brewery is definitely Sixpoint. I think they are based out of Brooklyn, so a taproom visit there is probably doable.

Sixpoint are everywhere in Scotland right now would you believe? They've got a deal going with a chain of pubs that sell Bengali, The Crisp and Sweet Action for £2 per can. Bengali is excellent. I seem to have tried Sixpoint Righteous Ale at some point according to untappd, but I can't say I remember that. Would definitely be interested in trying a few more of their beers and straight from the source.

From Ommegang I've had the Abbey Ale before. Again really expensive here, £8 or so for a standard bottle, so I don't get too many opportunities to purchase. Looking forward to it :)

Thanks for the advice. I'll have a think and post some of my favourite Scottish beers later. Had a smile at the Belhaven post above. Practically every single pub stocks at least one of their beers. Generally older men drink it !

It's another brewery that are desperately trying to update their stuffy ale image

If anybody is on Untappd, feel free to add me.

I'm from Scotland, but I haven't seen Resin so far. Will definitely be looking out for Hopslam though!

Is this place any good, it's right next to my hotel?

It's got Founders on tap, so I'm more or less sold as it is

I"ll have to give them another try. I remember one I didn't like (Brown Ale?) that stuck with me.

Based on the tap list, looks like a nice spot for a beer. Those prices are high, probably the cost of it being in NYC? But ouch. I remember back in Philly being able to buy a sixer of Yuengling for less than they are charging for a pint.

In addition to Founders, I'd check out Firestone Walker if you end up there. Their Union Jack IPA is one of my 2 favorite IPA's and their Wookey Jack Black IPA is the only beer in that style I generally care for. You really can't go wrong with anything from those guys, IMO.
