Just noticed Earth are playing here in about three weeks time. I have "the bees made honey in the lions skull"... Which I have enjoyed. If I'm going to get another couple albums to check out, what would you guys recommend?

To get a picture of what they'll sound like live (if their gig here a couple of months ago is anything to go by) you'll want to check out the two newer ones - Angels of darkness, demons of light (one and two).
I dig Hex as well but I like the new sound a LOT, more rich, lots of juicy 'cello, excellent mood-setting.

New albums are great.

Cracking live. Not so heavy any more though- don't think Teeth of Lions, think more Eyelashes of Butterflies

I think Earth live is really something you have to be in the mood for but I found their last show in Chicago (my first time seeing them) to be completely hypnotic and really interesting to watch. I like the stuff from Hex onward a lot more than the earlier records.

Same here. 2 is a fantastic experience when you've had too many pills/too much booze/excess of whatever else makes you feel like a stain on the floor, but the last bunch have been really perfect expressions of... whatever it is that he/they're doing. Post-rock basically blows now but Earth almost redeems it without really being it (if that makes any sense).

I really need to catch them live.

I think what totally made the last Chicago show for me was the drummer. She plays with such incredible care and precision. It's really hypnotic to watch. The whole band really sculpts that music in a truly masterful way. Every detail felt attended to. They are playing two nights in Chicago - next month I think. Probably won't go to both but I'm looking forward to seeing them again.
