OM is my favorite band however I had no idea what to expect from them this time. I had been peeking at their recording studio (magic*magic in SF) online schedule for the past few months and noticed a cello and a violin so I had some idea they were taking it in a new direction. no problems with that, I have yet to be disappointed with anything they have done... can't wait to hear the album in its entirety. love the first song and the string addition shows growth and experimentation. I guess I did get what I had expected, growth and expansion... this should be awesome live.

I've only heard "state of non-return" and it's great. Where can I hear the other one? This my most anticipated album this year.

I'm trying to keep my expectations of a U.S. tour low, but that would pretty much cap off the year for me if it happens...Om is one of the few bands I'll drive a considerable distance to see.

God Is Good ended up being a huge letdown for me and had me questioning the change in guard. However, after hearing this new song I am fully back on the OM train and July 24 can not come soon enough. As I mentioned in the thread over in the news section, I just hope this album can be more LP than EP in feel/duration.

Live...trying not to even think about that. I still regret my decision not to stay in Philly an extra month before moving here to Colorado to allow me to catch their NYC show. I figured the opportunity would present itself again down the road....6 years later and I am still waiting for that freakin opportunity.

it took me quite a while to warm to 'god is good' but I now love it, it certainly has a different pace though so I understand what you mean.

I was one of the lucky ones, I dragged my wife to see them in Santa Cruz during January 2008 while Chris was still in the band and was treated to one of their last shows together, it was pretty epic. robert/lichens was the opener and was not too impressed by him, lots of caterwauling... seems like since he has been performing with the band now he has dialed it back a bit and they become a more cohesive trio. are they a trio now? are they just a trio for this album? it appears he always plays live with them now. I will just have to wait for the album I guess...

Ha, I live in FL and flew to Seattle to catch Om. Guessing they make won't it here unless it's a festival. Anyway, it was that last tour with Haikus...who knew??? Worth it and fun trip.

i saw them twice with haikus two nights in a row so i was fortunate and got a nice trip out of it. god is good is there first album that cliked with me at all. variations on a theme was just that one good song and two other boring ones that sounded identitcal. conference of birds was great but really short and pilgrimage sounded fragmented. god is good was really where i started to see possibilities for the band beyond just rehashing the same thing over and over again ad naus. so after hearing the two songs i've lots of hopes for the new one exceding my expectations.

Almost makes you suspect the album title is trying to tell us something.

I'm not the type to jump on an opinion (lie) but I don't have any idea what you are talking about. Pilgrimage has such a great line of focus that it almost feels like one long song.

Yeah, I find it has a great flow.

My big complaint about Pilgrimage is that its just way too short. It's actually grown into the album I listen to most frequently by them but it can also drive me absolutely crazy because and every time I listen to it I just want the album to keep going for another 3 songs. At least.

yeah it is obvious but that doesn't mean that i won't find it boring and even interesting. no accounting for taste and i really don't need to hear albums that use the same theme for all the songs it just ain't my thing.

That actually sounds really good to me. Opinions are all over the place on it (from what I've seen), so I probably should check it out. They were a band that fell into a rut to me, and it sounds like things have been shaken up.

I don't think they ever fell into a rut. They could've after Pilgrimage as there's only so many places you can go with that minimalist setup, but switching drummers and releasing God Is Good dodged that bullet.

Grails + Al Cisneros sounds cool in theory and in practice it sounds fucking brilliant. Top of 2012 so far for me.

Damn...this album is SO MUCH BETTER than I expected. So far I love it.

Definitely OM, IMO, but with a nice merge of Grails influence going on. Definitely a huge step forward for OM....album flows wonderfully, length wise is very satisfying, and the songs show growth. Seems like the duo got themselves on the same page for what OM 2.0 should be and this album found a way to take the best aspects of each member and capitalize off that.

Is this out yet?
Totally digging the one song I have heard (posted here) so far. I thought Pilgrimage was excellent too. I need to go back and re-visit God is Good.

I think anyone who didn't like the last one isn't going to like Emil's drumming this time around either and will be left pining for Chris Haikus. Fortunately I'm not one of those, dug God is Good on lp and live, and I'm liking this quite a bit too, after a few listens. Cisneros just plays fine fuzzy weirdness that I enjoy burning a whole forest of trees to, what can I say? It's almost Pavlovian.

I didn't care for the last one or Emil's drumming and I am loving this one.

I think on God Is Good it was Al and Emil trying to figure each other out. I think Thebes is a song written for the original OM set that would have worked great with Haikus but poorly with Emil. I think Cremation Ghat I and II were two songs that had them trying new things but working better for Emil than Al, and I don't think it maintained any OM identity. I think Meditation...is the song that showed the best balance between Al and Emil but it just wasn't an awesome song, though it wasmy favorite off that album. I thought it was B-Side quality.

On this one, I think they worked the kinks out, figured out how to fuse the two's styles together, and in doing so managed to push the music forward. The songs have OM in it, they have Grails in it, and the two fuse well. I really think this could be their best crafted album to date. Love every song on it, love the flow of it, and I love the length of as its the first OM album that length wise I finish completely satisfied with it (Variations too long, the rest too short).
