I really hope that somehow, he's with us for quite a while longer. Hands down, the most eloquent speaker I've ever heard, and a fantastic mind. I haven't agreed with everything he's ever said, although I've agreed with most. I haven't yet finished this debate, but had been wanting to watch it for a while...and this opening 7-minute statement is devastating. I will admire Tony Blair if he even makes it up to the microphone. Stick around, Hitch.

ETA: The debate starts at 4:57. Skip through all the moderator fluff.

I dig him and much of what he has said, but his unwavering support of military interventionism visa vi Islamic fundamentalism has always bummed me out.

I don't think you are aware of all of the positions of Hitchens if you are saying you agree with him most of the time...

Perhaps Hornsy, but that's probably due to me watching him talk more about religion, and less about politics. Even when I disagree with him though, I have to think about it more.

There's a great Hitchens sample on that Masakari album, BA, which is something you'd totally dig, if you haven't heard it:

Read all his books and watched all of his debates.
I've learned the art of persuasive speaking -- Pathos, Ethos, Logos -- through him (and Tony Randall) and feel as though my fingertips are caressing the fabled corridors of Cambridge University when I pour over the body of his works and polemics.
I never would have been interested in some of the subjects previously uknown to me (Onomastics and nomenclature) had it not been for Hitchers.

The man is a pugilistic rhetorician, a none·such.
