I have an associate who likes them, who's into shit like sludge and doom otherwise. It takes all kinds.

Sometimes, the haters' reactions are as curious to me as their fans' devotion; I just don't see how that band could elicit ANY emotion, ya know ? So bland and....nothing. There's no "there" there.

Actually, the cliches about his fan base haven't been accurate for over a decade. Seriously doubt popped collar dude has listened to DMB for years. It's all sports talk and Limbaugh in the minivan now. Sure, if Dave was playing at Summerfest and parking wasn't too awful, he and Holly might pack up the double stroller and head down to listen to Satellite and reminisce about their first fingerbang at the Omega Chi kegger. But after two overpriced Coors Lights they'd be heading back to the Shady Oaks gated community to put Jessica and Kalen to bed and hopefully catch a few episodes of Triple D.

The Arch Priests of Frat Douche Date-Rape Rock™. Please delete this thread at once. Their music is indefensible.

The post above^ almost justifies this thread. Almost.

I see the biggest problem here is the dmb fanbase in the US not the music itself. And like I said, the people who I know that like dmb are a totally different kind. I still think dmb makes intelligent and beautiful music and that they are superb musicians...at least on first three albums...I've heard some of the later stuff and it's not as good. Anyways, as I am always opened to new music and new bands, can someone name a band that does a similar thing only more acceptable to you?

Dave Matthews Band sucks. I don't see what there is to discuss about this.

Dave Matthews sings like he is periodically being jabbed in the genitals with a red-hot poker.

You might wanna check out some O.A.R., Jack Johnson or John Mayer. All three bring the Whole Foods funk that be blowin' up Volvo woofers from Berkeley to Boulder to the A-dub (Ann Arbor). Shit's legit.

Dave Matthews Band had one good song ever, Satellite, but the rest is what separated people like us with the boring people everywhere else you turned. damn, people always asking if you like DMB, and even on facebook seeing people posting about going to his concerts last year or so, who needs to read that crap?

NO NO NO, the fanbase SUCKS and the music is also AWFUL. It can be both and it's not a coincidence.

But if you're feeling date rapey and looking for some other tunes to spice up the ruphenol and belly-button Goldshlager shots, try what MILLION MAN recommended. That stuff is the more recentish side of FDDRR--for the original holy trinity, go for RHCP or Sublime. 311 and Incubus might be apocryphal, if you're an FDDRR purist, but they work too. Just make sure she doesn't leave in one of your t-shirts.

Dave Matthews Band really fucking sucks, but Sublime is one of the most offensively horrible on every level bands in the history of music.

No, it's the music. I gave 'em a fair shot, Man. Two different bosses I've had have tried to get me to listen to the band, so Ive heard 2 different albums and some bootlegs. I listened with an open mind and just did not like it. There just wasn't one little thing about their music I liked at all. Even the "good musicianship" actually works against 'em. It annoys me that guys who have enough skills to make something cool waste their talent on that bullshit.

No, I couldn't tell you about anything similar that I like 'cause if it was similar to them I'd think it sucked. Sorry Man, obviously you've found something to like in their music, but Jesus, I just can't.

I went to several DMB shows during my late teens/early 20's. At one point I would have called myself a fan. When I was going to their shows, it was mostly dirty jam band kids, the popped collar crew was just starting to latch on.

But none of that matters. I only tell this in the interest of full disclosure. Now that I'm 34, my advice to you is to load up your hard drive with all the Fela Kuti you can find, and then delete/trash all your DMB stuff. You don't need it anymore.

Listen to whatever it is that makes you happy. Don't worry about the opinions of others; they're meaningless in that regard. Don't worry about what a band's fan base is composed of; that's equally meaningless. Just listen to what you find gives your life significance on a personal level. That's not something that anyone else can dictate to you, nor is it something that you should let the opinions of others even influence. Free yourself from all that, think for your self, experience what you enjoy for its own sake alone, and you'll live a lot happier of a life.

It's kind of juvenile to criticize someone for a personal choice that really has no impact whatsoever on the quality of your own life, such as another's taste in music. It betrays a troubled mind filled with a lot of silly prejudices and childish insecurities. I should know, I've been there, and regularly ridiculed people for what they listened to until I finally saw not only how truly foolish and stupid it was, but also that it was a complete waste of my time to criticize something so trivial. Are you hurting anyone by personally choosing to listen to The Dave Matthew's Band? Are you even impacting anyone else's life on here in the slightest by expressing your thoughts on an artists' music? No, and therefore anything anyone has to say on the subject of how you choose to spend your own time is completely irrelevant, including my own words here.

My guilty acoustic rock is Ani Difranco. My Girlfriend in college turned me on to her. Very under-rated guitar player that just slays live. When you go to her shows it sucks that you have to put up with her militant femi-nazi fanbase , but the bright side is there is NEVER a line for the mens room...

This is utter horseshit.
If the OP didnt want opinions, he wouldn't have asked in the first place.

What I do know, is that your opinion-based "moral high ground" is one of the funnier things I've read today.
Bravo.

Living in DC in the early nineties and having some fanatic GD friends from Charlottesville, VA, I was introduced to DMV at very small venues, and yes, one frat party. I am not ashamed to admit I enjoyed the shows I saw, especially an acoustic one he did in Arlington with Tim Reynolds (I have no idea why I remember the dudes name). My girlfriend for part of that time was heavy into the DC punk scene, so i can appreciate those who thought (think) DMB was crap. She was one. Fortunately she did not judge me for going to see DMB and still let me hit the bar she tended (Chaos above Chief Ikes) after those and other similar shows for some free drinks and pool. Good times.

I haven't listened to DMB in at least a decade or more, but I'm sure those songs I heard back then still have some appeal.
