The line-up is very very impressive.

I'm considering choosing this over Roadburn. Many reasons - one being, the US is a lot less expensive, and I can also get my Gibson shopping done there.

Who's going? Who's been there before?

I'm going for 2-3 days, been there twice (2009 and 2010) and had a blast both times. That part of Baltimore ain't pretty but the venue's great and the fest is very professionally run. It's a whole lot of smelly dirtbags in one room, though, so brace yourself. If you're looking to do some more traveling, it's an easy train ride to D.C., Philly and New York City.

You're considering coming all the way from Bangalore for this? respect... It'd be good to meet up (I'm Josh27 from the old board, btw).

Dude, it'll be great to meet. I'm not coming just for this. I've got family there and they've been calling me over for a few years now. And of course the guitar, I'll have to spend $600 more if I buy the same guitar here, so I might as well get everything done with just one trip to the States. I could make this into a nice 4 week vacation.

I have bands to see on all four days - which ones are you picking?

Friday looks like the day that shouldn't/can't be missed. Great selection of bands on all days, but Friday is wow.

I've got a Sunday ticket. Coming down on Saturday with my Dad and leaving Monday. Never been to MDF or any metal fest before. Chose this over Roadburn. VERY much looking forward to Electric Wizard and Church Of Misery, who I've never seen before. Also looking forward to seeing Saint Vitus again who I saw in March, and looking forward to finally hearing Cough and Rwake. Never heard/of the other 14 bands, so looking forward to any pleasant surprises.

I dont know..MDF seems to be lacking imo. Branching out into other genres for a 'death fest' is killing it for me.

Rites of Darkness on the other hand..laaawdy, now thats a fucking lineup

That is a great one (too), but MDF's timing suits me well.

Oh man, there's a ton... Skipping Thursday to conserve me strength, and I agree with Godshitter that Friday is tops... Godflesh is the most anticipated band of the fest for me, and there's also Unsane, sentimental favorites Napalm Death, Negura Bunget, Nasum, Today Is The Day, YOB, Morbid Angel, Winter, Noothgrush, E. Wiz, Cough, Rwake, Disma and Church of Misery.

The dudes that run MDF were young when they started, after this many years their taste is maturing away from death metal only, it's a good thing. Branching out into other genres is winning it for me and many others, making this the best overall current US fest in my opinion.

I have tix for all four days and will probably be there for all of it (that I can take). Mostly interested in Church of Misery as they were one of the overeas bands on my long-standing wish list.

I've been seriously considering it, because I really can't miss E. Wiz, but I just haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. I hope they don't sell out before I grow the balls to do so.

Wow. I have them all on my list too.

Plus Autopsy, EHD, Nashgul, Castevet, Bloody Phoenix, Anvil, Artillery, Nausea, and Bethlehem, off the top of my head. I'll just see the two bands on thursday, and go all out on the next three days. I'll have a lot of questions once my trip is on, Josh. Expect a PM flood!

Oy Srikanth, I'm planning to be there if I can as well. Would be nice to see you this side of the world for a change da.

But won't be able to get tickets for a while. Hope they don't sell out.

The fest overall has gotten much better, diverse over the last few years, but damn. The conditions seem pretty horrific compared to what we used to have in Youngstown over the very same holiday weekend. And that is saying something given that I travelled three years over three time zones to go to fucking Youngstown.

so yeah, been there, done that. Or as Paul Baloff said; "Older than shit, heavier than time". That's me. At least until Blut aud Nord, Darkthrone or Goblin plays one of these fests. :)

Or whenever Burning Witch plays again! Roadburn, MDF, whatever. How stupid they haven't done anything yet, but they've got a similar player working against that dealio as the so-called KYUSS reunion did. So whatever.
