I dont know. One step forward (dumping that initial song), one step back (keeping this latest song).

leaked. took a quick listen, but will now go through it more thoroughly. although there are some catchy psychedelic ballads throughout it, the album is full of weak indie-rock riffs and irritating disco beats. vocals, although well sang, are emotionless, and the music sounds very sterile overall. absolutely no heaviness...the sludge/stoner parts gave way to mellow melodies which sound interesting on their own, but songs really go nowhere...it seems like a very dull, shallow and boring album...dissapointment of the year. there are some really cool psychedelic intros/outros/parts that have great potential and could have been used much better. take my bones away is the heaviest and best song on the album, so go figure...

let the butthurt begin...

only through the yellow album.

i like it. i'd like the vocals a little lower in the mix, and the guitars a bit higher, but it sounds like baroness to me.
we'll see how the other disc goes.

No butthurt so far. Indifference yes, but no butthurt. It's simply not very good..

Entire album is streaming on NPR: http://www.npr.org/2012/07/08/156292608 ... n?ps=mh_fl

I may be in the minority here but I really like it. Listened to the whole thing today. Some of it's heavy, some of it isn't. I really dig some of the drum sounds on here and some of the treatments they get, they definitely mess around a lot with the production. There's a lot of stuff going on. Way more melodic than before. Honestly? To me, this sounds like their Radiohead album, where they're experimenting a lot with the production. I'm sure a lot of people will hate it, but I like it. Will definitely be picking this up once it's released. Resume shitstorm in 3....2....

I've heard about half and liked most of it. Sounded like they've been listening to some Fripp/Eno tapes in between all the usual Wishbone Ash ones to me. Gonna give the entire tape an objective listen when I get the chance, mainly because in the promo shots one of the guys is wearing an English Dogs shirt.

this shouldn've been a double album...there are some pretty good tunes up there...i like twinkler, cocainum, sea lungs, eula, take my bones away isn't bad either, but the whole album chronically lacks in variety...especially the second disc...

Not having been a fan of anything they've done, and not having really been a fan of their live shows, I am only a few songs into this and I'm kind of digging it. I guess if you were a fan of theirs before, you are now disappointed. Makes sense because this sounds almost nothing like the Blue or Red albums. In my case, that's a good thing. I'll give it a few spins and see where it stands but it's definitely interesting so far.

Didn't I say I was going to pick this up? And I would, except I feel like I have too many other things lined up. Was on a long drive this past weekend and courtesy of a friend heard a few things I'd much rather spend my money and/or time on. I was somewhat interested based on the stoner rock Thrice concept and the idea of a band concentrating on the songs rather than the riffs. But I feel like it's probably still a rambling shambling bunch of uninspired hooey that won't even come close to the old Ned's Atomic Dustbin album I was listening to today at work. Who knows? Maybe I'll spot it in the used bin soon.

My tape deck died on Thursday so I may be on to cds in the car, which means a lot of otherwise ignored albums will get their fifteen minutes of fame. I feel like if I bought this Baroness album I would never listen to it, I'd just be buying it because I said I was going to start keeping up with new releases...but if I have that cd player in the car, I can give something like that a fighting chance. May be impetus to purchase it...just because I'd never get around to putting it on tape for the car, but with a cd payer in there I will likely get a shoebox and put such "one and done" disks in there as the first Hognose album and the last Porcupine Tree. Shit comes fast and furious, I'm running out of room, and I have only so much time for John Dyer Baizley.

It's like Foo Fighters with out a sense of humor. This sounds intensely labored and completely devoid of any humor or levity. If it wasn't Baroness I wouldn't even have bothered to listen. If it wasn't a band I cared about, I wouldn't have been disappointed. Boring and bland.

I just checked out "March To The Sea" and thought it was pretty good. Much better than that first song.

It's definitely not the masterpiece a lot in the rock and metal press tout it to be, but it's also not a ginormous piece of shit...I dig the hell out of most of the heavier album, especially "Sea Lungs," "Eula" and "Cocainium"...the song "Little Things" is peculiar - horrible lyrics coupled w/ an awesome instrumental close...the mellow album is more hit and miss, but it's got its moments - particularly the instrumental track near the end...that said, there's filler to be found (ex. "Mtns.," "Twinkler," "March to the Sea," "Collapse"), not nearly enough Adams solos, and the clean vocals get cringeworthy at times (wish they'd offer an instrumental version of this album as Mastodon did w/ Crack the Skye)...all in all, I'd give it a 7 out of 10...an "E" for effort even if it comes up short in a few places.
