Gave it two listens, this will be in regular rotation for a while. It's an enjoyable yet complex listen. I really like Torche's style. They do poppy hooks without sacrificing the heavy.

That's my review.

when did they turn poppy? I don't know, I remember only certain types talking about them at Emissions, they were a filler band, filler slot. fistula, dove, floor, rue, pb army, rebreather, that little clan that wanted to be noticed.

Why is it not cool to amit it? I love Torche so much I'll say it in Pink. That's right I said it! New album rocks.

I'll bite.

I don't like them because they were boring live (see thread: Baroness/Mastodon). Not because I'm some scene-shrinking elitist.

defyall, really? Around when did you see them? I don't care too much for them on record, but they've been good to me live. All that smiling is contagious. Granted, it's been several years now...

December 2008 at the Scala in London. At the time I gave Meanderthal a real go, listened to it a fair bit and went to the gig intrigued and looking forward to the live show. Haven't listened to the album since, there was no bite or energy from them. Disappointing.

ISIS played Hive Destruction that night though, so I went home happy.

Just really digging into the new one now. Some stuff that sounds like it's right in line with their formula, but some places where they push it too so far. Not too bad.

This album has been growing and growing and growing on me. Having a 2nd guitarist definitely makes a huge difference with these guys. I'd say this one is close to being on par with Meanderthal, my favorite album of theirs.

I'm a few months late, but this album is great. Wasn't expecting much because I wasn't too jazzed by the couple clips I heard. But it's top notch, just about everything grabbed me. Probably the most complete sounding album they've done, in terms of pacing and sequencing. Hopefully it's been getting them deserved attention from fence sitting rock fans. Accessibility in this case sounds natural. Counting the Floor stuff, this guy has been doing this for a long time, and I'm alright with some softer edges and the spacier side of things. If it was boring, I'd say it, but it's not.

Do you have a copy Seamus? I'd actually like to hear it.

I'll bring it over sometime soon. I never got Songs For Singles so I actually wasn't up to date on my Torche at all, but I am firmly in their corner at this time.

You didn't miss anything.

This new one is a nice return to form. These guys NEED 2 guitarists for the music to work it seems.
