LAST - Stargazer (Australia), KNELT ROTE (PDX), Aldebaran (PDX) on Saturday. Fuckin' hell, KNELT ROTE really is a force of nature to behold.

NEXT - Windhand, Bell Witch, Ionophore, Stoneburner on Wednesday. Stoked to see Windhand for sure. Just checked out the Ionophore stuff tonight; Leila from Saros/Hammers of Misfortune doing experimental synth stuff. Up my alley, but not sure it fits with everything else on the bill. It's cool though in my book.

LAST - Esoteric, Velnias and Saturnalia Temple last night. One of the best shows I've seen this year, especially as far as Velnias goes.

NEXT - Chelsea Wolfe and True Widow on Saturday.

Last night - Sigiriya, Gorilla, Gonga.
Sigiriya were playing some new songs, album coming up. Sounds like it's going to be another all-out tasty rock album in the Sigiriya style. Sound was FAT.
Gorilla were a bit confusing really, meat-and-potatoes bar rock, some stuff that sounded like Motorhead, every song had 'Rock' in the title. Bit of a Spinal Tap vibe about them, but actually pretty good. Got a few heads nodding, a few frowns and beard stroking, and one guy kicking right off in a one man pit.
Gonga set out the new material brilliantly, continued the consistently good sound the other bands had enjoyed, brief technical issues didn't slow them down and the new album is well and truly launched. Splashed out on a cd and tshirt.

Next - UFOMAMMUT on Tuesday. (also 2nd wedding anniversary heheheh).
Not first choice venue in Bristol, and a strange match for Ufomammut really, but I'll be surprised if it's not great anyway. No idea about support, Zolle and Death of Orion.

Last - Washed Out in Boston at The Wilbur Theater a couple weeks ago. Yeah, I know, not metal, not doom, not even rock. To describe them live...was like being at a Black Crowes show if Daft Punk was also on stage DJ'ing. Basically, kind of a hippy vibe mixed with fairly loud electronic atmospheric noise melody. I dug it. It was a birthday present from my sister in law.

Next - Bummed I'm missing Pelican at Great Scott in a couple weeks, have a wedding in Jersey the same weekend. Besides that, no idea. Seems like Boston has become an outpost that bands with show to show gas money just don't want to, or can't afford the detour on a tour. It's been like that for years it feels like now. Local scene is still decent (especially the indie rock - Pile, Grass is Green, Speedy Ortiz, etc.), but at my old/married/parent age, my opportunities are so few, I keep holding out for those out of towners that I know are rare occasions that I shouldn't miss. I need to go out more, is the bottom line.

edit, I wouldn't mind seeing this show (11/16 High On Fire, Kvelertak, Doomriders @ Middle East Downstairs), but I'm throwing a surprise 40th b-day party for my wife and her twin brother that night. Still have not seen High on Fire live to date. Need to change that some day

The last was Toner Low, Bottom Feeder and Doublestone.

Next up is the mighty Ufomammut with Suma as support.. It's the same thing in Copenhagen this time. They played here in 2011 and 2012 in normal venues - this time they're playing a place that usually is a drug-fueled techno club - in a fancy part of town. Weird, but i am sure Ufomammut will deliver again.

Last: last weekend had two huge shows: Monday saw Orange Goblin/Holy Grail/Lazer Wulf, and Sat. night was Scorprion Child, Kadavar, Gypsy Hawk, and Mothership.

Next up: not sure if I'm going to the first one listed here but will be the second for sure Oct 25: NWOBHM legends Diamond Head, Raven and Mothership or Nov 01: Mike Scheidt solo (YOB), Uzala, and Sabbath Assembly.

LAST - Chelsea Wolfe/True Widow a little over a week ago. Holy crap this show was annoying! I had to bail about 30 minutes into Wolfe's set after I figured out what that whole dealio was about. I still like her debut album a lot though.

NEXT - The Skull (the Trouble guys that aren't in Trouble anymore), Hammers of Misfortune, Uzala, Mike Scheidt on Sunday.

Last- Goblin. I wasn't crazy about the prog first half, but the soundtrack shit they did with slasher film clips playing in the background -- Dawn of the Dead, Tenebrae, Suspiria, Deep Red -- totally ruled.

Next- Godflesh, Philly & NYC.

Last: Chelsea Wolfe, wouldve had Disappears this Weds, but thinking the booking agent got smart with the Red Sox playing at home and knowing it would be a shitshow on Kilmarnock St, so show was canceled.

Next: Pixies, Godflesh

That Bristol?
Likely to be my next unless I make it to Slabdragger tomorrow, which is highly unlikely.

After that it looks like (Men Of) Porn are playing in November, had no idea they were active. If it's the right band I'll be there for sure.

Last - Ufomammut, bit of a funny night, didn't really get into the support, drank more than I planned, set of varied material was good but there was a notch less intensity than the last couple of times I've seen them. Still an amazing live band even without being (for me) at their best.

Good show this was. 3 tuaregs??? and a euro drummer giving it rock all! decent crowd tho in an all seated venue somewhat lacked booty movement to the desert vibes coming offstage. Only bummer was they wanted £25 for the vinyl version on album!!!
