Fair enough. I apologize for taking it a tad too far. I appreciate your well reasoned post above. To clarify, I only deleted your last post, because you questioned my authority, publicly. I can understand your frustration, and the key factor in the issue was that we were both online at the time and posting within minutes of each other. Had we not been on at the same time, I think that things may have went over better, as other people may have posted in between those posts to give us an indication of what they're after, too. Or maybe we would have let things cool down just from not having things happen in the heat of the moment. I tried to delete it to save you, also, from having to endure some flack. Some people (as evidenced by this thread) weren't exactly thrilled with the way you handled the situation either, and with the questioned authority post, I saw that thread going nowhere but in the dumpster.
I'm still learning the limits of the rules here and what's okay and what's not okay, and I understand that it sucks to maybe be singled out or that it was a surprise request to tone down language. Administering some sort of discipline isn't my favorite thing to do, but obviously in some cases in the future, it will need to be done. In some ways, I sort of wonder that upon further analysis, if I wasn't sort of looking for some infraction....like a rookie cop going after someone for a busted taillight, because maybe he feels he's doing his job. Obviously, there's a skill to knowing what to let slide, even though it may be technically wrong.
Well man, I appreciate that, but an apology isn't really necessary. I was initially pissed, and probably should have taken it up with you via private message. I think if nothing else, this thread served to get the expectations of the admins, mods, and users with an opinion either way out there. Oh, and there was the pic of Billy Bob Thornton urinating on himself along with the close-up of my undescended testicles. That's gotta count for something, right?
There's going to be limit-testing. It is just that way, especially with the anonymous nature of the intraweb. I'm usually quite aware of when I'm close to the edge of what is allowable, so I know when to expect a tap on the shoulder. I just honestly wasn't expecting it this time. It might be a good idea to put people on notice via private message when they're fucking up; kind of like the bouncer in the bar pulling the loud drunk guy aside and giving him a chance to rein it in before a confrontation happens. Sometimes the belligerent will actually listen, and sometimes they'll argue. Either way, they're on notice.
