What do you call them?

Other than underproduced. Heavy Americana? Stoner neofolk?

Maybe a catchall like heavy psych?

Thanks for posting this...sounds very promising...the band that immediately comes to mind is Across Tundras - especially their sparser sounding material...this band wouldn't be out of place on a label like Thrill Jockey...as for giving their sound a name, something that combines Neil Young, drone or doom might work.

Harvest doom?

Good call on the Neil Young, and I'd been thinking Across Tundras as well, also Arbouretum for the folksier side.

Harvest doom is a better tag than Americana doom, methinks...I imagine the members of Young Hunters are also big fans of Evan Caminiti's work and all things David Eugene Edwards.

I like this band and all the other bands listed. Harvest Doom it is.

My lazy approach would be stoner-psych rock even though they're not the sound I picture first when I think of that. Their bandcamp tags cover it.

Cowboy vest metal

Joking aside, I like this a lot even though the production isn't great.

Oh jeez, I played the first song in the player and immediately thought two things - they need a better produced recording and secondly, I actually like what I'm hearing. Harvest Doom really does describe it well -- good call.

i call bands shit i like to listen to and shit i don't like to listen to. everything else just confuses the matter. people get hung up on calling things this that or the other thing when at the end of the day that shit just don't matter.

I actually dig the shitty production, but maybe I've been listening to too much lo-fi black metal.

Right there with you. It is lo-fi, but it's not weak or thin at all...I like this quite a bit.

Very, very good! a pretty unique sound - maybe a little Black Mountain?, except the "heavy parts" are more heavy with Young Hunter. Record ordered!

Enjoying this find.

Definitely get a nice dose of Across Tundras sound from some of these songs. At 1:35 of track 2 I almost thought a unreleased track from Modest Mouse's Lonesome Crowded West got mixed into there as well.

What about Creedence Doom? Is that a sub-genre yet?
