Kind of interesting to see Miami dismantle after being one of the larger players in this last offseason. I really don't blame them though, because that team has been a mess and they've still got some really nice pieces.

The Houston fire-sale continues with them sending Wandy Rodriguez to Pittsburgh. Good to see the Bucs as players finally.

I wonder if Reyes and Buehrle have any regrets signing with the Marlins since they're now having a fire sale. Sure they're getting some nice prospects but it could be a few years until they become contenders. I can't wait to watch the next few episodes of The Franchise to see how these trades came about.

The firesale continues and Hanley Ramirez and Randy Choate get shipped off to LAD for Nathan Eovaldi and some B prospect it sounds like. Not much too give up on LA's part and if a change of scenery can refresh Hanley and bring back the good Hanley, quite the steal for LA. If not, I still think it works out for them. He fills their hole at SS and provides some power. Sounds like Miami had gotten tired of him, seems like he was becoming a headache.

That Hamels deal is massive. $24 million for 6 years, he better not get injured.

Looks like the Dempster to Atlanta deal fell through as Dempster was giving his okay anytime soon and Atlanta didn't want wait/be a chump any longer.

Buster Olney thinks the Cubs are now going to hold on to Dempster, and make a qualifying offer...for the possibility of compensatory draft picks.

I know Dempster loves Chicago. He allegedly only wanted to go to a NL team so he could still come back and pitch at Wrigley. What boggles my mind is him putting the Cubs over a barrel by refusing a 3 month trade in the final year of his contract. He could be shipped for a decent prospect, have a shot at the playoffs, then return to chicago next year.

Harold Reynolds just mentioned it and I think it's a great idea. The giants need to make Tim lincecum their closer

Why would they move Lincecum to the closer spot when they already have Casilla who has pitched fairly well this season and they have Brian Wilson returning next year? Seems like a bad move in my opinion..

Casilla has blown like 7 of his last 9. I'm not saying Timmy remain closer but he is obviously ineffective as a starter this year. And it's been the 3rd time through the rotation whence gets hit hard. Right now Timmy is the odd man out come playoff time as a starter

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Angels have acquired Zack Greinke from the Brewers.
The rumored deal would net the Brewers Jean Segura and a pair of Double-A pitchers. It hasn't been announced yet, but it looks like Greinke will be making his next start for the Angels on Sunday. He has publicly stated that he holds the Angels in high regard and may be open to signing a contract extension now that he's there.

Could this be next?

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that that the Marlins and Rangers are still "heavy in talks" regarding Josh Johnson.
Furthermore, Nightengale writes that the Marlins are "leaving no doubt" that they intend to trade Johnson. The 28-year-old right-hander is under contract for $13.75 million next season, so the price is said to be extremely high. The Blue Jays, Angels and Orioles are among the other clubs reportedly in the mix.

It kind of seems light on the Brewers end, but you really never know about prospects. The pundits are saying the Brewers gave up more to get Grienke than they got back. Both in and out were short-term rental situations. It was a good run though for the Brewers though. I admire that franchise for giving it all, with Prince and Greinke last year. They were close.

Angels really do not have an excuse for not winning at least the AL Pennant at this point. I think Greinke is risky though and if someone can get over on him or CJ Wilson in the playoffs, you may not see Anaheim in the World Series. I'd rather have Lee or Dempster in the short-term.

With Nolan's Ryan competitive fire, Texas will probably overpay for Lee/Dempster/Johnson before this is over with. I really hope Texas gets fucked over in whatever deal Nolan shoehorns them into.

I think the Giants landing Scutaro will be enough to nullify the Hanley to LA deal. Not that Scutaro is a better player, just that the Giants were that much better of a team before either of these deals were made.

First : Demon Lung lay off the pipe if you think Lincecum should be a closer, based on a (so far) bad year. fantasy stats are not that important.

Second: The Brewers run was when they got CC. Last year was steroid Braun, and he got off on a technicality. They couldve traded grienke for real value, skipped on ramirez & kept prince. theyd be better off, but still pretenders at best.

Third: Wanting what Dempster has been so far, and getting what he really is are two different things.
I'm probably just bitter because 3 weeks or more ago Dempster wouldve gotten the cubs something great in return... now it is decent at best on a return

The 2 best trade pieces right now on the Cubs are the ones no one is really talking about:

Paul Maholm is killing it as a back of the rotation guy... no expectations, and I think he's at 6 straight starts with 1 or less ERA? Back to the pirates? LHP is ALWAYS in demand.

Carlos Marmol - best slider in baseball, it is fucking filthy when he is on it.
Can he control it, or can he find a pitching coach that can control him? Rothschild coached him when he was at his best

And also who said anything about fantasy value for Timmy? I don't care about Timmy's fantasy value. I care about what he can do best to help my favorite baseball team. For the rest of the year that should be at the back of the bullpen. I'm not saying it permanent but his arm obviously needs a break. He hasn't been bad this year he has been really fucking bad. Hes gone over 220 innings for like 5 years straight and he did it right out of the gate. That ahit has started to catch up to him and the giants need to find a way for him to be effective as well as help the club. I hate the Scutaro trade. Crawford has been playin a good ss and theriot has held down second base. Charlie Culberson would have been a solid future 2nd baseman for the giants. They should have went after a catcher so they could go ahead and move buster to 1st. They have a catcher in the minors that's like a year away

MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports the Rangers "don’t appear too high" on the idea of trading for Josh Johnson.
USA Today reported Friday that the sides were still "heavy in talks," but Texas no longer looks like a realistic landing spot. According to Sullivan, the Rangers have health concerns with Johnson and aren't willing to sacrifice their top prospects. Johnson is under contract for $13.75 million next season, so the Marlins have an extremely high asking price. The Blue Jays, Angels and Orioles are among the other clubs reportedly in the mix.

The back and forth as teams vie for leverage continues. Though this wouldn't shock me.

I think I read Amaro said Lee isn't going to be traded (this year) but you got to think he'd have to reconsider if Texas came calling with the right offer.

Guess I wouldn't be too surprised to see Shields land in Texas. An Andrus for Shields offer would probably be able to get things done and if Texas has enough confidence in Profar being ready to handle things in the pro's might make some sense. Profar hasn't played beyond Double A though, right? I dont follow the minors but that seems like it might be a rush job to bring Profar up so soon?

ChiSox get Liriano. The AL Central sure seems to trade a lot of players around within the division. It's weird.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee is "in play in trade talks."
Olney calls the Rangers "the most logical landing spot" and says third base prospect Mike Olt could serve as a possible centerpiece. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman heard Friday that Lee was unlikely to be dealt at this year's deadline, but the Phillies just got swept by the Braves and may be more willing to sell off some pieces than they once were. Hunter Pence, Shane Victorino and Juan Pierre are also reportedly being shopped.

And Liriano is so hot and cold...depending on which version shows up could determine the White Sox fate.

Cubs trade Maholm & Johnson to Atlanta for two minor league pitchers.
Soto to Texas for another minor league pitcher.

Maholm had the best 6 start run for a Cubs LHP in 90 years, and only brought a pitcher recovering from Tommy John?

Soto? steroids were a hell of a drug. he'll be out of baseball before the end of next year

The Mets trade Beltran to the Giants last year for their top prospect and he was just a 2 month rental. The Phillies trade a similar OF with another year on his contract and they get shit back in return. Way to go Rueben. He and the Phillies scouts should all be fired, and I'm not even including Charlie in this rant.

You got the 3rd best catching prospect in the minors. They were talking about moving posey to 1st for him

The Phillies didn't need another catching prospect when they already have two in their farm system. The Phillies needs are 3B, OF and pitching. They didn't address these needs. Gary Brown should have been the main guy the Phillies received back in return from the Giants. Especially since Pence is signed through next year. He's not a 2 month rental.

Where are you getting this information from. According to Keith Law's Top 100 Prospects article he wrote at the beginning of the season, Tommy Joseph isn't even listed. Plus if you take away Mesoraco and Grandal who have already made the majors, Joseph still doesn't crack the top 5 at catcher.
