Guthrie would seem like a superior option...Volquez has a knack of losing his head in games after a couple runners got on base...and poor Dusty Baker got tired of sending him back and forth from the minors last year...that said, the guy's got commanding stuff if he can keep his head out of his ass...good enough to merit a #2 spot behind Cueto in the Reds rotation until the wheels fell off his wagon...if the deal happens, it would stand to reason that Colorado would be Volquez's last real shot at getting his shit together.

Are you sure the Mets can afford Hanley? It's looks like they're trying to shed salary rather than take on any huge contracts.

oh no man dont think i said the mets will get him because they wont. he just im plied that he would like to go there because of the disrespect that florida has shown him. im not sure about this pagan trade. to me the giants just got a little bit better version of andres torres. but for torres and one of the top relievers on the team

Rockies trade Huston Street to San Diego for a PTBNL. Seems like they sold LOW. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the cash they just freed up. They better use it wisely.

And I think Anaheim should make a trade offer for Hanley Ramirez.

So Olney just said Pujols is "leaning" towards signing with the Cards...lot of head scratching re: the Cards...why $198 million in January, but $220 million now?...they could've avoided the circus by biting the bullet, but now they're on the brink of a larger bidding war...as much as I like Pujols, he's not worth that kind of long-term investment, which will tie the Cards hands in far too many areas...move Berkman to 1B, make Craig an everyday OF, and nab a solid 4-starter (i.e. Buerhle) to compliment what should be a stellar 1-2-3 punch of Wainwright, Carpenter and Garcia.

I'm kind of glad Pujols is staying in St. Lou. I like seeing that kind of institution carry on.

The Marlins were for real, eh? Bell, Reyes, Buerhle and they're saying they're the favorites for Wilson now. Their rotation was their achilles heel this season, and they've gone a long ways towards shoring that up, especially if Johnson can stay healthy. And they're at least going to get something decent for Ramirez too. Whoever trades for him to play SS is going to have that blow up in their faces.

This deal is basically setting the market for what the Phillies are expected to sign Cole Hamels for. Hopefully they can offer him a 5 year $75 contract to lock him down for a while.

If the Marlins sign Wilson to a 6 year deal I hope they have enough money to lock up Mike Stanton in a year or two. Hitters with pure 40 home run power do not come around often and it would be a shame if they couldn't sign him because they overpaid for Reyes and two number 2 starters.

Pujols to sign with the Angels for 10 year $250-$260 with a full no trade clause.. Terrible contract for Anaheim. Card's are probably better off.

Pujols should never have left St. Louis.

Completely agree. Loyalty doesn't mean anything anymore in sports. It's all about the money. Angels are now paying a lot of money to 3 players. Pujols, Wells and Hunter. No way anyone will take the Hunter or Wells off their hands because of their declining skills and money owed to them. Basically they have to get rid of either Trumbo, Morales or Abreu now because Pujols locks up first base and Trout, Hunter and Wells in the outfield. This leaves either Trumbo, Morales or Abreu at DH. My guess is Morales is gone. Plus they Bourjos who now will ride the pine. Also, in 2013 they need to decide whether to pick up Dan Haren's $15.5 million option or buy him out at $3.5. Luckily, Weaver is locked up until 2016.

I personally think this is a bad move for baseball.

its a horrible move for baseball. the angels now have to trade vernon wells "they will have to eat most of that contract. they will have to trade either keadrys or trumbo or both or they have to trade abreau. i could see them trading trumbo to colorado for ian stewart or something like that. i hear that the brewers are going to sign aramis ramirez and that is perfect for them as a replacement to prince

Good riddance...mr. holier-than-thou was actually all about the money...go figure...I'm with Frog and Adam - terrible contract for Anaheim...and as I said yesterday, the Cards didn't need to shackle themselves to Pujols long-term for that kind of money...Berkman to 1B...Craig gets healthy following his recent surgery and assumes a full-time OF spot...another underreported factor in Pujols' departure is the front office's focus on the ascent of 1B Matt Adams, the Texas league player of the year...dude is 23 and hit .300 w/ 32 HRs and drove in 101 RBIs in 115 games...time to turn the page.

Fielder will probably get a $200 million contract since Boras will somehow convince some team to pay that to him

heavythisaxe, what are they saying in St. Louis about this? Will he be hated now? In a way I'm glad he signed elsewhere so Musial can continue being the greatest Cardinal of all time.

And now Anaheim signs CJ Wilson too.

I think Hunter's contract is up this season? Maybe they try to make a trade where they package a Hunter with a Trumbo or Morales and take back less in player value so the other team will eat the contract.

Gotta make sure they have a spot for Mike Trout when he's ready for the big stage. And you need a spot for Bourjos too.

Any team that trades for Hunter or Wells and doesn't make the Angels pay the bulk of the contract is fucking foolish.
